How much PC is too much PC?

Are all forms of insults going to be considered offensive?
I mean, on this site, the n-word is pretty bannable. The f word that rhymes with maggot isn't AS bannable, but has a relatively high ban rate. Will it be non-PC to make fun of fatties? Mentally-handicapped people? People who are just stupid? How about short people (AHEM)?
Will a line ever be drawn or are we headed to very unfunny South Parks?

different things are acceptable in different places.
if you're talking about this site specifically... i've never reported a post, and i've seen some ridiculous shit on here, so as far as i'm concerned there is no such thing as political correctness.

Personally, I've always liked this short comment by Stewart Lee.

Not in the UK at least, the vast majority of newspapers are right leaning, and tv news wise, we have the BBC, which is supposed to be politically neutral, and its major competitor- sky news, which leans right. Of course, virtually all hold positions that would be almost heretical to the American right.
He is one of the best left wing comedians in the UK- there's a longer piece by him on the same material-
Here
Covers much of the same ground.

great britain is a largely leftist region, aog, so even our leftist media is considered "right-leaning" by britons, as evidenced by the above post
just thought you ought to know the context behind symmetry's post

Sort of, and certainly on a lot of social issues. But the American spectrum is pretty skewed to the right compared to most other major western nations. Perhaps more so than any other, but I could be wrong on that. We currently have a Conservative government in coalition with the Liberal Democrats (and while this might be confusing, they're supposed to be the centrist party). Also, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland have different makeups politically from England, with nationalist parties having a lot of power.
Basically, it's a bit more complicated than a two party system, and ideological purity is a bit harder to define. Newspaper wise, the tabloids are right wing, apart from the Daily Mirror, and the broadsheets are conservative, apart from the Guardian and to a certain extent the Independent. They're a bit easier to define.

You only have to ask nicely and apologise for the Revolution and you can have the British one back in no time.

you tell people that you're offended by something so they know how you feel about it.
it's just offering your opinion like anything else
nothing wrong with that

Great Britain deserves the adjective "Great" more than the United States deserves the adjective "United".

Unfortunately, some people get offended when others say they've been offended. Others will be offended by that in turn.
What makes the distinction is when people deliberately cause offence to other people, knowing that those people will be hurt and for their own personal amusement.
No social point is advanced, no personal freedom gained. Civility is sacrificied. If you know you're offending someone deeply, it shouldn't be the burden on their part to have to tell you when to stop given that you already know what you're doing to offend them.

that's the point of telling them that they are offending you. if they continue, then they are probably a cocky british douche like fry who doesn't care about the feelings of others.
there is a HUGE difference between offending someone and not being politically correct. PC is societal, impersonal, and sometimes infringes on free speech. offense is personal and done with malice.
