A series of eights tournament idea

Hello,
I've wanted to try to run a tourney but never had what I thought was a unique idea until now. I thought I would put it out there to see if it is a good idea as well.
I'd like to do a set of eight games on the same map with eight different settings of play but the same eight players in each game.
Deciding who wins the tourney would be based on points maybe 8 for 1st, 7 for 2nd and so on unless someone thinks a better point award is more suitable.
I'd love to use maps where the players start with 8 territories to keep with the series of eights idea but I have no idea which maps those would be or how to figure that out.
Looking forward to some input, rob

A tournament has to have a minimum of 16 players.

Go with 64 players then

8 games of 8... then an 8 player finals!

Nice Idea if that isn't too much to organize for a first time tourney coordinator.

It shouldn't be that bad, as long as you do the games in either sets of 2, or so. That way you don't kill yourself with sending out invites, and such.
I do like the idea though. An easy way to see the territory count you start with is probably to check the forum for the map. They tend to give starting territories per player for the different player counts.
As for the scoring system it doesn't really matter to much as long as you are consistent with it.

You don't have to send invites. You can send game links and tell them to join the games themselves. That's what I would do for a tournament like this.
For instance, you can use tags like this:
I would not think that this should be a super difficult tournament to run.
An example of a points system could be:
- First Place: 10 points
Second Place: 7 points
Third Place: 5 points
Fourth Place: 4 points
Fifth Place: 3 points
Sixth Place: 2 points
Seventh Place: 1 point
Eighth Place: 0 points
As far as a map... How about Eastern Hemisphere? Everyone would start with 8 on that one.

Thanks for the advice so far.
Eastern Hemisphere is a map I like.
64 players split into 8 groups with the top from each group going to a finals is cool. Using the 10, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 scoring system would be good.
I think now the tourney idea has changed to 64 players I would use the 30 round limit to keep things moving.
I'm leaning towards keeping the games Standard with Auto troops and sequential play. The variables for each game would look like this:
1 = Escalating - Chained - Fog of War
2 = Flat Rate - Adjacent - Trench Warfare
3 = Nuclear - Unlimited - Trench Warfare
4 = No Spoils - Chained - Fog of War
5 = Escalating - Adjacent - Trench Warfare
6 = Flat Rate - Unlimited - Fog of War
7 = Nuclear - Chained - Fog of War
8 = No Spoils - Adjacent - Trench Warfare
I can see keep those setting straight as I set up the games being a challenge but I think I can handle that. Some of them might be ugly as well. Like number 8, that sounds like a setting that needs a round limit.
What other advice do you all have?

Trench Warfare on a map that large will probably not finish in 30 rounds. I would probably not use trench if you are going to have a 30 round limit. A 100 round limit might be better for trench on a map like this. Or, you could just make the games sunny only and no trench.

you should also explain upfront what happens if there is a tie for first in a group.
A Series of 5's would be easier for you to start with as you'll only need 25 players and they'd each play only 5 games so you could send them all at once.
Maps with 5 starting terits for 5 players are:
All Your Base Are Belong To Us
Celtic Nations
Das Schloss
Egypt: Upper
Greater China
San Marino
unfortunately there are 6 maps, not 5

You don't have to use all the maps either.
