Peanut's 3X Double-Elimination - Team Doubles Tournament

This tournament is in the same style as my Singles Editions. It is bracket-type tournament with each round being itself a double-elimination series. All 64 teams will be grouped by 4 and the winning team of each group will be the winner of the double-elimination round and move on to the following round in another group with 3 other winning teams. Note that elimination doesn't mean a loss in a single game but rather in a set of games against one team (i.e. best of 3). You can lose no more than one set of games per round.

The tournament winning team will therefore have to win 3 consecutive 4-team double-elimination brackets.

When signing up, please only one post per team and include the name of both team members as well as the home map selection.

For those unfamiliar with a double-elimination bracket, here is the format for 4 teams (which we will be using).
Diagram of a 4-team double-elimination bracket
Image
Modified 3-team double-elimination bracket
All teams will play each other once in a match-up. As soon as a team loses 2 match-ups, they are eliminated and the remaining teams will play until one team loses 2 match-ups in the round. In the event that all three teams each have a loss after the round robin play, a special 3-team match-up will be played (1 game on each home map plus 1 random map) with the team winning the most games moving on to the next round. In the event that two teams win two match-ups each, they will play a final match-up (home maps plus 1 random map) to determine a winner.
How the tournament works
Round 1
Given that we have 49 teams signed up, we will have 15 groups of 3 and 1 group of 4 all chosen randomly.
The groups of 3 will play a modified double-elimination bracket (see spoiler above).
The group of 4 will play a standard double-elimination bracket (see diagram above).

3 games at a time (1 on each home map, 1 on random map).
Match-up winner determined by best of 3.
Winner of the bracket moves on to the next round.

Round 2
16 teams grouped in 4s by ranking (see below).
Double-elimination brackets for each group (see diagram above).
5 games at a time (2 on each home map, 1 on random map).
Match-up winner determined by best of 5.
Winner of the bracket moves on to the next round.

Round 3
4 finalists in the same group.
Double-elimination brackets (see diagram above).
7 games at a time (3 on each home map, 1 on random map).
Match-up winner determined by best of 7.
Winner of the bracket claims victory in the tournament!
Ranking
Rankings, used for Rounds 2 and 3, will be determined according to the following criteria. Rankings are reset after each round and previous rounds are not included.
  1. Fewest match-up losses
  2. Fewest game losses
  3. Most away game wins
  4. Most random game wins
  5. Most home game wins
  6. Fastest game win
  7. Sorted randomly

Groups will then be formed using the Serpentine system (see here)
Game Settings
All games will be :
  • Doubles (2v2)
  • Standard
  • Automatic
  • Sequential
  • No Spoils
  • Chained
  • 20 Round limit
  • No Fog
  • No Trench
TPA3 scoring
Based on the diagram, the rankings per bracket are :
  1. Winner
  2. Loser of Game 6 (or 7)
  3. Loser of Game 5
  4. Loser of Game 3
*Note that I will use the term Match-up to mean the series best of X, and game to mean an individual game. For example, in the first round, each match-up consists of 3 games.

Tiebreaker amongst the various brackets (i.e. for all 2nd places in Round 1, all 4 places in Round 2) :
  1. Fewest match-up losses
  2. Fewest game losses
  3. Most away game wins
  4. Most random game wins
  5. Most home game wins
  6. Fastest game win
If still tied, players will receive the same final ranking.

You copied and pasted the 1v1 rules rather than change to 2v2?

It is the same mechanics as the 1v1 tournament, but with teams of 2, so the post was modified taking those changes into account. If I missed something or something isn't clear, by all means let me know.

All in up to this point. About 30 % full.
Hank44Soccer wrote:Is this a preminum only tournament?
Unfortunately, given the game load in later rounds, it is a premium only tournament.
