Excellent suggestion. Will prevent the willy-nilly change-your-name-as-often-as-you-breathe while still allowing individuals who seriously just want a different name the ability to do so.BGtheBrain wrote:Concise description:Specifics/Details:
- Allow users to change their name, for a fee
How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
- For $x.xx let any user change their name.
Sometimes, people just want to change, as we've seen it can be done. This will let some people with stupid names like BGtheBrain change it to something awesome like BGtheAwesome.
I know Xbox Live charges $10 to change your name, and people pay this all the time. This is a quick fix for an additional revenue stream.
The users records, history, comments, etc... all remain so the only thing changing is the name itself
I believe the problem had been fixed, but not 100% sure.Woodruff wrote:Excellent suggestion. However, wasn't the argument always that it would impact the ability to find their games and such? Has that been resolved, or am I misremembering?
Yes! I would pay $10 to change my name to "codierosesux" for a few weekscodierose wrote:love it

+1 to these. But I think a list would be better. Because if player A decides to change his name often, that's going to be a lot of names listed on the profile. I just think a little drop down list/box of previous names to reduce clutter.betiko wrote:yes and under these conditions:
-you would have your old name written under your new name on your wall page so that people recognize you
-your old username is "retired", no new member can take it
-inviting with either the old or the new name works
-you remain on people's foe/friend list after the name change
I'd think the drop-down log would be good, but I'd also think the new name should be replaced wherever it showed. Like, on foe list, on friend list, on game invites, prior games played, forum posts, etc.TheForgivenOne wrote: Maybe add in a little log somewhere on their profile tracking their name changes? That seems like a good addition.betiko wrote:yes and under these conditions:

Agreed. Hell, look how often BGtheBrain changes his damn avatar?BGtheBrain wrote:The reason for $10 is to prevent excessive name changes. $10 isnt much, but it should be enough to prevent that.donelladan wrote:Suggestions is nice. But 10$ to change your name???????![]()

No... 1$ would be ok I think.
$1 we would have name changes too much and it would cause serious problems Id imagine.
I propose that the fee be $10 for BGtheBrain and $5 for everyone else.Woodruff wrote:Agreed. This same thing happened to me. If you look at their sign-up post in the thread, it shows the new name though.trinicardinal wrote:I like the idea. My only concern is with tournaments. I've had the problem where someone has had a name change due to personal info... and they were in a tournament of mine. Didn't notify me and when the time came to invite them I got the User doesn't exist message... I can see this sort of thing happening more often with this suggestion. In this case the positive seems to outweigh the negatives but It would be nice if there is some log or such that could be accessed with the changes.
That does seem like a pain in the ass for the tournament organizer though, particularly in a very large tournament where they would have to go through a high volume of names to figure out "now who was this guy again?". The burden shouldn't be placed on the other users (in this case the tournament organizer) for the after-effects of the change...that should be felt by either the user themselves or the site.DoomYoshi wrote:This same thing happened to me.
