Is everything a fucking Ad now?

Seriously. I can't open anything up these days without an Ad in my face. My poor Adblocker can't seem to keep up with it either. And late on the news on this, but YouTube hammering down on Adblocks just so they can peddle some scam or AI girlfriend bullshit, but punishes if you dare not want to see that junk. Did society just melt down to single digit brain cells? Give me the 2000's again, when you saw Ads, it just meant you had a virus for browsing some ner-do-well sites.

...or <click> here's three copies of the same damn ad, or an invitation to click to continue (to something you have no damn idea what it is)

I have to agree with you ConfederateSS...we have too many free loaders taking advantage of CC. You would think they would at least get a job at Walmart and become productive citizens. But NO! They want to cry and whine about ads or vomit a sentence or two about productive premium posters here.

I didn't take it to mean that CC had ads.

I believe they were talking about media in general.

I know when I'm just scrolling the news, sometimes I get multiple popups. Sometimes the popups have popups. And what pisses me off is that they never warn you something has a paywall. You click on what seems like an interesting news story, click away the popups, and then find out you can't read the story anyway because it's Globe & Mail or Wall Street Journal.

Duk is right. I was referring to everything. Two: I already pay for the service. My internet bill and my phone bill. You're telling me I should shell out more money to other businesses to not have Ads? No thanks.

Two thoughts:

Maybe I just have a good setup but I rarely get ads on my laptop when dicking around the internet... but the trade off is every website having accept/deny cookies popups every single time I do anything anywhere and text messages to my phone with 6 digit codes anytime I want to log into anything even I had just logged in 15 min earlier. Not entirely sure if this is more/less annoying that having the sites remember me but also have full reign on ads in my face. (Brave Browser with it's native ad block software, U-origin but usually leave this disabled cus the brave software has been solid lately)

On my phone I don't really do anything on a web browser, it's all 'in app' and don't find a ton of ads that way.

I did update my Adblocker using Opera last night. Noticed a significant change. Youtube hasn't detected it yet. There's another funny Adblock where it just clicks on every ad possible for some more technical mumbo jumbo that I'm not entirely versed in but it was a TL;DR Ads hate fake traffic. Couldn't use it though, pages would just freeze or not load.

Never used Opera, but Brave is also a 'chromium' variant like Opera so I'd expect it should be pretty decent. I feel like porn websites are the best way to test how well your adblock works, if you can click around different porn sites for 5 minutes and experience less than 3 pop-ups/redirects you are ready to face 99% of what you are going to run into on the boomer-web

Yeah I'm not testing the waters on my PC for the experiment. I don't have a spare OS to try. xD so far, I've had none though. Actually have Brave on my phone, but lately it's glitchy. I never was impressed with it when i had first got, and it felt like it had been going downhill for me since.

Something pops up every time I visit a porn site.

Only 1, though, so I guess it meets your "less than 3" standard.

Yeah, if it's just one and it's like the first time you navigate to that site and click... it's not ideal, but it's a reasonable compromise in order to use the site you prefer. If it's happening evertime you click on a new video to watch there that is a totally different story.

Talking of ads, there's one on TV I keep seeing for 'Mango'. I think it's a clothing company, I don't know cos I never have sound during ads. It opens with a cliche shot of her legs exiting a car. I imagine it's supposed to be sexy, but all I think is ' That poor girl! Her legs are so thin I bet she never walked 100 yards in her life!'

Huh, I wouldn’t have picked Mookie to be the guy to miss that joke but here we are…

Google is a shadow of its former self. For a very long time they were the best search engine for finding things. Like, by far, it wasn’t even close. Exactly what you wanted to find was often one of the first three suggestions.

Now it’s likely on the second or third page, if it’s there at all. At minimum the top three hits are ads.
