When I first found out what a chav was, I was so ecstastic. I thought, "Wow, they have THOSE PEOPLE in Britain, too? And they even have a name for it!"

Here, they just fall under the general "white trash" category, but they are an identifiable subset.

blacks are natural athletes, Jews are great with money. (Though I have yet to personally meet a stupid Asian. Doesn't "yuppie" mean the same thing in the US as in the UK - Young Upwardly Mobile Person? While that stereotype would be seen as uncouth, brash, nouveau riche, it's not the same thing as a "chav". Mainly because of the "riche" part.

I think too many of the Americans here are emphasizing the imitation of black culture bit in their interpretations of what a chav is, while not paying due heed to the trashiness.
