i think we need a new poll about america raping a good language...Timminz wrote:I think the poll results speak for themselves.
I don't understand why you all won't honour and recognise, or, should I say realise, that Americans speak American and British people speak English. Oh and just to add some more English: favourite. colour. harbour. crumpets.freeroll84 wrote:i think we need a new poll about america raping a good language...Timminz wrote:I think the poll results speak for themselves.

Let's see .. probably because the language originated in England and we speak a variation of the original, not a true distinct language.InsomniaRed wrote:I don't understand why you all won't honour and recognise, or, should I say realise, that Americans speak American and British people speak English. This would honestly end all the squabbling over the addition and removal of letters. That said, it would also prove all the hick patriots that shout about how they speak American, damn it, correct. That is a frightening thought.InsomniaRed wrote:I don't understand why you all won't honour and recognise, or, should I say realise, that Americans speak American and British people speak English. I've never heard an American say that word. Doesn't it rhyme with "quiche" then?jiminski wrote:i don't mind the little American quirks and they are adding to the ever-expanding vocabulary of our mother tongue.
But what does get right on my goat is when every-piece of software has US-English as a default.. or there is no choice for 'English' at all... that does rouse my insecurities.
i also dislike the way Americans say 'niche'... but it makes us feel superior for no good reason, so do carry on.
