Hello, and Welcome to SuicidalSnowman's Underdog 1v1 Tournament! *What you need to know: 1v1
Single Elimination
Match ups determined each round as described below.
Best of 3, 5, 7, and 9 each round.
1 game at a time
Standard, Sequential
Other settings player selected each game.
Maps are player selected.
Introduction From the biblical days, everyone has loved an Underdog. The David over the Goliath. Anyone who plays against the Yankees, Red Sox, or Patriots. The 1980 USA Hockey Team. Perhaps it is because we relate the the Underdog, the average guy or gal, who may be lacking on talent or prowess, but who is full of drive and heart.
CC has its own class of Underdogs, those without the points. And yes, some are idiots and jerks, but most are good, honest players who love competition and fair play, but for some reason can't seem to climb the ranks.
This tournament is designed to give the Underdogs a fighting chance.
Information This tournament will be 1v1. Each round will be a best of, either 3,5,7, or 9 games, depending on round.
All games will be Sequential and Standard.
Other settings will be picked by participants.
Maps are also player selected. For this tournament, I ask that only Quenched, Live maps be used. This means no maps that are in Beta status. If a map goes live during the tournament, it will be available for all subsequent games.
This tournament is going to require frequent communication between myself and each participant. You have 24 to respond to each. After 24, you receive second notice. After 36, you receive final notice. If you do not respond in 48 hours, you are replaced.

1. Why did you select these settings? I wanted to make a tournament that worked a little bit differently. I also wanted to celebrate the perennial underdogs, the Philadelphia Phillies, World Series Championship. Can you explain how the "opponents points" determination works? Sure. I am going to take the difference in points between yourself and your opponent. Whichever is highest (or smallest negative if the favorites win) will be the underdog from having the biggest "upset". When you are checking points? When everyone signs up, I will go through and get all the points. For each round after that, I will recalculate when everyone is ready for the next round to begin. I'm going to points dump prior to signing up!!!1! Go ahead, you are an idiot. You are still going to be just as good at CC as before, and judging by your last statement, I doubt you have enough points to bother dumping. Why should a player with a lot of points join? Aren't they at a disadvantage? Mildly. The Underdog only picks the first game settings. If the Favorite can win the first games, they can quickly sweep through on their home settings. The Underdog has the greatest advantage in that if they can win the first two games, then they just have to get lucky once during the next three, while the Favorite is then in a do or die, win or go home situation. Do I choose all settings at once? No, wait until I PM you. You select settings before each game, so if you pick something you are sure you will win at, then get crushed, you can adjust before the next game within the round. You can send me them all at once, but it is in your best interest to not. Please explain how Random.org picks settings in rounds 2-6. What I want you to do is give me ideal settings. Say "Shapes, Flat Rate, Unlimited, Sunny" and "Art, Escalating, Unlimited, Sunny" while your opponent comes up with "WWII Australia, Escalating, Chained, Fog." I will then randomize these settings to pick. Think of them like 'votes.' [player]White Moose[/player]: "What about maps? You haven't specified anything about maps." Good call. Maps are player selected. Beta maps are excluded, although if a map goes live during the tournament, it may be used once it goes live. At this time, I see no reason to exclude any maps. Is there a rule for build up games Yes. After 35 rounds I will review the game. Both players will receive notification, and have ten rounds to end the game. If this does not happen, the game is a draw. Although the game does not count for either player, it still counts as played! If it was a decisive game, then a tie break will be played with Escalating cards on a Classic-style gameplay map (no auto-deploy, no bombardment, no killer neutrals, no decay, etc). Is this your first tournament? Should I be worried? It is my first tournament organized. I have, however, read the tournament handbook, asked people for assistance, and participated in a variety of tournaments. I think I have this well thought out. I have high attendance and participation. Stuff might go wrong, but I will promise this tournament will not be abandoned. I am slowly building my name around here! If you still are not sure, let me know and I can invite you to the next tournament I run. Is there any possibility of expansion? Shrinkage? I am going to give sign ups about a month, max. If there is overwhelming support, I will expand to 256, which will be played best of 3, ranked by points (same as the 128 round). If around the first week of December I have very few sign ups, I will shrink it down. Who has the final say in disputes? I do. Sorry, but that is just the way it is. However, if any changes are made, YOU have the final say. I will provide notice here and via PM if I make any changes, and you will have a chance to drop or stay. I don't predict any changes, but unforeseen circumstances may force this. How many Reserves will you have, and when will you activate them? I want to get at least 10 reserves. I will keep the reserves open throughout the tournament, and collect them as I go. I will be the very last reserve activated, only to be used if the tournament is stalling. The policy for being kicked is 48 hours. You have an initial 24 hours to respond to all new games or PMs. After 24, you receive second notification, and then have 12 hours to act. If you do not act, you receive final notification, and your final 12 hours. If after 48 total hours you have not acted, you are kicked. Is this bracket style? No, everyone will be re-seeded each round. [player]endar1077[/player]: "Curious, though - you say "Match-ups to be determined by points". What does that mean, exactly? Are we matching up players with similar ranks, or opposite ranks?" I will be doing opposite ranks. The highest score will play the lowest, second highest, second lowest, and so on.
