Dancing Mustard Tossed From The Tower

got an email from Dancing Mustard this morning to make me aware that he had once again been forum banned. we are working on it, and just posting this, because he wanted everyone to know what was going on and where he was:

Yo.

So I just got forum banned. Again.

This time it was for posting a user's phone number, which he personally asked me to post so that people could contact him. Then removing it a couple of hours later when I decided that he was probably making a bad deciscion. Apparently my crime was so bad that it took a moderator five days to notice before banning me.

Apparently doing what other user's would like you to do, then trying to save them from their own stupidity is worthy of a ban now. It makes perfect sense, right?

Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you'd let the Bandits (and the rest of the forum, if you don't mind) know that I'll be gone for a long time.

All the best,
DM

Yup... a doubly bad decision. So how long is a ban for doing stupid stuff?

Oh, and how long is a long time?

A month? Two months?

What was the sentence?

The question is: How long is the ban for doing stupid stuff other people ask you to do and that only impacts the person asking?

The more stupid the act, the longer the ban.

This of course depends on which mod has the pimp stick at the moment and said individuals mood. Oh. And their inconsistant view on what is stupid. Oh. And the fact that they most likely knee jerked it and didn't follow up, or fact check or verify..... and so on and so on.

Seems to be trendy to kill em all and let mod sort it out. Later.

I think if you get enough bans for stupidity you get a name change and a forum to police.

Just a theory.

I'm surprised the mods are wasting all their unpaid, unappreciated free time (see below) on such a well loved character.

What a freaking joke. Mods, this isn't even a victimless crime. What the hell is going on? Just unban him, we already gave you your dirty $25. What, you want more? Jeez. Seriously, could you guys please, please, please stop banning one of the most valued posters of the community every few weeks over trivial technicalities? That would be nice. I'm begging you.

It is really weird because I can't find anywhere in the rules that what DM did is against the rules.

Whenever the Reds take over a country, the very first thing they do is ban subversive internauts.

Fact.

We already established the last time they banned you guys (along with Simon Viviant and Skittles!) that they don't really care about that. I mean, sure, don't post personal information of someone else...but the guy asked DM to do it. I mean, even if this person was banned, leaving the forum a method with which to contact them isn't ban worthy, surely?

I'm not sure I follow the reasoning behind this mod edit.
Reason: personal information from another site.
If that was personal information, then why was it sitting in a publicly viewable location?

It was a certain mod posting under his real name. :o Don't know what he's trying to hide his name at this point, everyone knows it. Also, good job mods on the whole editing posts nobody cared about in the first place while one of our favorite posters remains banned.

It's really pissing me off. Damn it, do you guys just hate us or something? It genuinely seems that way. You make a post not involving locking or banning every fortnight, just leave us alone. Seriously, I don't understand why you won't just go away. Nobody cares if I talk about eating dead babies, so clearly it's virtually impossible to offend people here. Flames almost never get out of control, and I'm pretty sure clapper can handle that without backup. So what's the motivation? Why continue to f*ck with us? For lulz? Power trip? What? What the hell do you want? Stop ruining our forum!

I don't know if this was a matter of actually breaking a rule so much as an excuse being found.

Just so long as the guy who requested his home phone number be posted really did request that it be publicly distributed, then that shouldn't necessarily be against the rules.

But if that number was given to the recipient in a PM, then the obvious implication is that the message was intended for the recipient's eyes only, and without the sender explicitly stating he didn't mind or in fact desired his phone number be posted, the assumption should be to keep the information confidential, treating it as if it were one's own.

I don't know the substance of the original post made, but considering how smart DM is, I'm sure he reasoned it all through similarly, and if he didn't, then he was pushing the limits and drew a punishment. If there was no harm, then hopefully no foul. The guy who posted his number hasn't begun receiving text flirts all of a sudden, has he?

So, one would think that removing the information would be sufficient action enough, unless there's more to the story that hasn't been revealed to us here.

Also, is it possible the mods took 5 days to deliberate before taking action? Again, I'm completely in the dark about the source material for this latest catalyst to massive forum drama.

DM, all the best to you, but if you were consciously pushing your luck, you probably got what was coming. Take it like a man and don't do anything that will prevent you from coming back to the fora. You will achieve further heights of legend if you do, as you will forever stand as an example to other forum readers, since you can take it like a man without self-destructing.

The martyr's influence dims and is forgotten after a long enough period of time, but if you come back, you can continue to have influence and prestige. I'm sure you know all of that already. Plus, during this time in which you are exiled, your influence can still be felt with off-site fora, assuming that ever actually happens.

On the other hand, if this is truly a case of the mods looking for an excuse, come on guys... If it was a simply misunderstanding, and there was no damage to the guy who posted his number, what's the harm in just dropping the matter? I understand the slippery slope argument; if you let it go without any punishment whatsoever, then people will begin to think it's acceptable to put up personal info for a few hours, or days, then take it down and claim "misunderstanding". But if this is a new understanding of what can escape punishment and what cannot, this instance should be considered a "mulligan", and next time you should come down hard.

Whatever, it's too late now. The mods won't lift the exile until the prescribed time, I'm sure of that. Everyone just wait it out and use this time of exile for something new and exciting, rather than going rogue and ruining more fun.

And diddle, what does being back in the new year mean? A month? Two months? Six months?

If they're still using the escalating ban policy, he's gone forever.
