Spoils/Troops/Legends

Hello,
I am new to this game, I just joined yesterday, and there are a few things I don't understand yet. I've searched the forum for answers, but I couldn't really find anything useful.
The first thing, is 'spoils'. These are troops you get for controlling areas right? But how does it work? Do you have to control an entire area, or just a certain percentage of it?
The second thing I have some trouble with, is troops, and more particularly, fighting. My question is: If I have 2 adjacent areas, with one having 3 troops, and one having 1 troop, what is best? To keep it that way, or to redivide equally (both 2)?
And my last question is: How come on some maps, certain colours are given for an entire continent, even though these colours were used on the map itself for 2 or 3 countries?
I hope you understand my questions

Thaks ahead for the help

Spoils on CC are the same as cards in Risk, I think, refer to them as cards and everyone will know what you mean. You get one when you end your turn if you conquered or successfully bombarded a country that turn. Unless it's a no spoils game, obviously.
In order to get a bonus for a continent, you need to hold the whole continent. This is what defines it as a continent, you get a bonus for holding it.
If you want the best defense with the smallest amount of armies (troops), put two armies on each country.

Welcome!

Have you read the instructions? You might find your answers there, but it's not certain.

'Spoils' is not troops you get for controlling areas. Spoils is, as MeDeFe said, the same as 'cards' in RISK. They can be exchanged for troops though when you have a set.

Splitting the troops to have 2 on each territory is the best defence, but not neccesarily the best strategy. In escalating games you gain nothing by putting 2's everywhere since it's not really about troops there, more about 'spoils' (cards).

I do not understand this question, maybe you can give an example?

Thanks for the answers

.
The thing is, I've never played risk, so I don't know how spoils or cards work.
If I possess a whole zone or continent, does the number indicated in the legend, represent the amount of troops I will get on top of the normal amount I get?
I'm going to re-read the instructions, maybe I'll understand them better this time

yes that is an extra 'bonus' amount of armies you will get for every turn you hold that continent.
these two links in instructions may help you understand spoils more

Yes, that's correct. In your
Game 4253488 it could be displayed as:
Code: Select all
2009-02-14 10:15:10 - JordiM receives 2 troops for holding Australia
That means he's holding all the yellow territories on the southeast part of the map.
Furthermore, I think experience is your best teacher. After another 10 games I'm sure you'll know fully what this means.

Hi al
Im new to this game too, and the bit I don't understand is how your spoils are countries occupied by another player and have nothing to do with your own territories. Are the randomly allocated by the game when "due"?
