Draft 2

Gameplay still under discussion.
A few days ago, porkenbeans put together some conceptual maps:

to which I replied: "that looks like Palau.". Here are some pictures of Palau:

An uncanny resemblance, no?
So why should there be a map of Palau? It's ranked
number one on the list of
Seven Wonders Of The Underwater World, and is considered by many to be one of Earth's last truly unspoiled environments. It was also the site of the
deadliest battle of the Pacific Theater in World War II.
Here are two of the maps I used for reference:

and here is the final product:

The territories are a combination of the political
States and the famous
Rock Islands.
Focus on the gameplay, NOT THE GRAPHICS. If porkenbeans decides not to do this, and the idea has a lot of support, then I might do the graphics myself.
32 territories, not counting the 2 that start neutral.
What say you?

Nice start! Also, if I'm not mistaken, Palau is one of the newest independent nations to be admitted into the UN...
I think that +6 for Babeldaob is pretty steep, considering you only need to defend 3 to hold it, and only 2 if nobody had gone for Kayangel (and why would they, with 5 neutrals and only +1 reward?).
Are there any ports that would make sense to connect more of the continents?
Cheers,
LC

Palau is indeed very much like the draft that I did last week. There is even a heart shaped island like my Angelfish Island. Wow, just uncanny.
I would be very happy to work on the artwork for this project.
I have a couple of concerns. Can we possibly make the game play as such, that I do NOT have to color the land ?
Also, when zooming out to get in all of Palau, you loose most of the detail, and it looks just like any other island chain. Maybe a map pack is in order. One large map that encompasses all of palau, and 2 or 3 that zoom in on just a single island. That way maybe I can show the real beauty of this place.
Anyway, let me know what you have in mind. I am just the artist, you are the mapmaker. So, I will do my best to give you what you are looking for. Please keep in mind that I am NOT a photoshop wiz. I can use paint, brushes and canvas to create art, but this photoshop is a new medium to me. I am, however, getting better and learning more each day.

[
Moved]
This map has been moved into the Ideas subforum, as it does not meet the criteria for a Working Draft, and does not have a current developer.
Drafting Room Guidelines
To be considered a Working Draft a project must be more than just an idea; a Draft should have a clear thematic focus, a plan for how the gameplay will work, and a basic image which should include:
- 1. Territory Labels - temporary names or numbers will suffice, and are always open to change.
2. Borders/Paths/Impassables - it should be made clear where territories do/do not connect.
3. Bonus Areas - where combinations/groups of territories will award a bonus, this should be indicated on the map.
4. Legend - speculative bonus values and explanations of any attack rules or gameplay features.
Draft images should not be larger than 630x600px (small image) or 840x800px (large image).

Right, change of plans then. People go to Palau to dive, so the map is going to be focused on diving. Here are the diving maps I used

and here is the revised map.

The map name might change to Rock Islands... we'll take a poll or something later.
The islands will start off neutral.
Possible gameplay changes:
- Players start on islands and conquer the reefs (too much like Treasures Of Galapagos?)
- Travel amongst the islands
- Islands aren't territories
I'll send pork the PSD, but I doubt he'll need it.

I like the idea but I have nothing to add until some serious graphics get added and maybe some more land?
