Questions about Spoils [Answered]

Hello-
I completed my first game today, and I've got four simultaneous games going now.
I'm not quite clear on how the spoils work. Maybe you can help me.

If I get a spoil (by conquering a region), do I lose the spoil if I lose the region? Or is the spoil like a "card" which I've earned and keep, even if I lose the region?

In my first game, I had a spoil listed (not in bold, because I didn't own the region). I got two more spoils (by conquering regions) and then I could turn in the three spoils, even though I never really conquered the first region. This puzzled me.

Thanks for your help.

"Spoils" are indeed much like "cards", although completely separate and not derived from them in any way.

Three spoils of matching shade, or one of each shade, can be turned in for reinforcement rewards according to the game type (Flat rate, escalating)...

A bold spoil indicates that you HOLD that territory, and if you turn it in while it is bold, that territory will receive an automatic bonus.

So you can turn in a spoil which you don't hold (and have never held) with two that you DO hold? An you only get troops for the two you hold, and none for the one you don't hold?

OK, I'm reading the instructions now (when all else fails...):
"You earn spoils at the end of every turn in which you successfully conquer a region":
So that means if you conquer a region in a turn, you get a spoil (named by a region), but the name is chosen at random?

And you can turn in three even if you don't own the regions themselves, but you get a two troop bonus (for each) if you do.

I think I'm getting it. You guys are great. Thanks.
