The eulogy he gave for his brother Robert was amazing. RIP Teddy.

On behalf of Mrs. Kennedy, her children, and the parents and sisters of Robert Kennedy, I want to express what we feel to those who mourn with us today in this Cathedral and around the world. We loved him as a brother and as a father and as a son. From his parents, and from his older brothers and sisters -- Joe and Kathleen, and Jack -- he received an inspiration which he passed on to all of us. He gave us strength in time of trouble, wisdom in time of uncertainty, and sharing in time of happiness. He will always be by our side.

Love is not an easy feeling to put into words. Nor is loyalty, or trust or joy. But he was all of these. He loved life completely and he lived it intensely....

...My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life, to be remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it.

Those of us who loved him and who take him to his rest today, pray that what he was to us and what he wished for others will someday come to pass for all the world.

As he said many times, in many parts of this nation, to those he touched and who sought to touch him:

Some men see things as they are and say why.
I dream things that never were and say why not.

He should have been imprisoned for manslaughter decades ago. He is a politician of the lowest order in terms of both policy and partisanship and his selfish recklessness directly cost another human being her life. He was in no way whatsoever a decent civil servant or human being.

Honestly this is good news in more ways than one as the Democrats now lose their filibuster proof majority.

No I don't feel that I have to say nice things about this murdering hack just because he died.

I'm not angry. Why would I be?

I have no sympathy for murderers, particularly rich upper class murderers who get away with their crimes because they are in a position of privilege.

Can you explain why instead of just accusing?
And you add a link to a song from a heavily liberal band?

I have to agree, though I'm indifferent on Ted Kennedy. We really shouldn't say good things just because someone died.

Or back on topic....

RIP Kennedy. He had a pretty bad time with his illnesses, but I think hes shown great courage in recent years. I've not been following US politics for as long as he was in the senate, but it seems that a lot of people from both sides had huge amounts of respect for him.

Also, is the governor of Massachusetts democrat or republican?

that's too bad. but, it happens and, the last of the original Kennedy mob is now gone.

The kennedy's have gotten away with a lot through the years so, except ofcourse the Kennedy women.

He worked very hard for civil rights and growing up in a Catholic family, my parents loved the Kennedys (not so much Ted). He also worked very hard to be nonpartisan. I believe one of his famous quotes was to not let a good thing go because we want it to be perfect (or something like that). He was pretty politically savvy, which I think was a good thing through the years.

He murdered someone, that has haunted him for years, but there's no reason to be uncivil.

That being said, when George W. Bush passes away, I'm fairly sure Sultan's quote will be "Good riddance," so let's try to practice a little less hypocrisy.

Titanic the govenor of Mass. is a Democrat.

RIP Ted Kennedy. I never really liked him as a politcian or as a man, but no ever deserves to die a slow and painful death like he did. One of America's political dynasties just ended and I'm glad, I don't think anyone should become a senator or president or anything just because their father or brothers did it. (Again, I'm not happy that he died, but that the dynasty ended).

... Hypocrisy.

... That said, I would wish his manner death on no one. RIP, Ted.

Why was Ted Kennedy never brought up on murder charges for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne?

Answer:
Unfortunately, money and power usually have a louder voice than justice. Ted Kennedy is from one of the wealthest and most feared families in America and the authorities did not want to go against the Kennedy family and charge Ted with a crime. Several Kennedys have used their money and influence to do good things while others abuse the law because they can get away with it. Back when the accident happened, there were not the stronger laws we have today against drunk driving but even today a person with the means to hire top attorneys recieves different treatment than say the average citizen. Millions of Americans dislike Ted Kennedy today because he never took responsibily for Mary Jo's death, by lying and hiding behind his family's name, making him a coward. The American judicial is the best in the world but it has it's flaws and this chapter in history is only one example.
I'm glad he's dead. He should have been arrested, imprisoned, and executed back in 1969. His long drawn out death was just natures way of punishing him for his crimes.

I don't know about executed, and murder might be to harsh of a charge. He is certainly guilty of manslaughter and should have been imprisoned for that.

Instead of being subject to the same justice system that any of us would have been he got to be a Senator for three decades.

No I wouldn't wish his manner of death upon him. I wish he had died much sooner.

do you know what actually happened at chappaquiddick? i am serious, do you know? because calling it murder is pretty ridiculous -- it would have been the most convoluted murder ever (not to mention the most inept). something like negligent homicide maybe, but not murder
That being said, when George W. Bush passes away, I'm fairly sure Sultan's quote will be "Good riddance," so let's try to practice a little less hypocrisy.
i don't see any hypocrisy. george w. bush's policies directly led to the deaths of countless thousands, including women and children. he also eroded civil liberties in enormous, possibly irreversible ways. and while i will inwardly smile when he dies, i won't gloat -- what use is there gloating over something like death, a cosmic happenstance that waits for us all? but i will not honor his memory, because his memory will not deserve honor. his death will be merely another opportunity to point out what a cancer his life was, upon america and the world

kennedy dedicated his life to making other people's lives better. last july he returned to the senate from the hospital, fresh off of a life-threatening seizure, to help break a republican filibuster on a medicaid bill. this bill led to the expansion of SCHIP in january. let me repeat: ted kennedy risked his life, literally, to expand child healthcare. he did it again to vote on the stimulus. he was a principled man and a great politician and if your first thought upon his death was chappaquiddick you are missing the point in a big way

Did Ted Kennedy vote against the war? I believe he voted for the war. In any event, you're a hypocrit, as you've just proved.
SultanOfSurreal wrote:if your first thought upon his death was chappaquiddick you are missing the point in a big way
My first thought was about the Kennedy family and Catholic support of that family. My second thought was Mr. Kennedy's work for civil rights. My third thought was the Chappaquiddic incident. I think that was evident in my post. I don't gloat or "inwardly smile" when anyone dies; it's just not useful and it's about as mean spirited as one can get.
