This tournament is a survivor series tournament. Each round you play 3 games. You only need to win 1 to survive in the rubble of Stalingrad. Some will be killed in battle, some starvation will get them, some it will be disease, but only 1 can survive to become the Victor of Stalingrad.
This is possibly the finest 2 player boards on Stalingrad. As well as being a great multi-player map. With 100% honesty no board on Conquer Club manages to capture the actual events of what actually happened in the battle and replicate it in the game play. A massive shout out goes to cairnswk, the map creator.
HISTORY:
German soldiers call the battle Rattenkrieg, War of the Rats.
The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the largest and deadliest battles in World War II. It was a turning point in the war. After losing the battle, the German army lost so many soldiers and took such a defeat that they never quite recovered.
Stalingrad was located in Southwest Russia on the Volga River. It was a major industrial and communications center for the Soviet Union in the south. Also, it was named after the Soviet leader Josef Stalin. This made the city important to Stalin and also important to Hitler, who hated Stalin.
Stalingrad was called Tsaritsyn until 1925 when it was renamed Stalingrad in honor of Josef Stalin. In 1961 the city's name was changed to Volgograd, meaning Volga City.
The battle took place during the last part of 1942 and early 1943. After months of fighting and finally nearly starving to death, the Germans surrendered on February 2, 1943.
The battle began with the German air force, the Luftwaffe, bombing the Volga River and the then the city of Stalingrad. They reduced much of the city to rubble. Soon the German army moved in and was able to take a large portion of the city.
However, the Soviet troops were not ready to give up. Fighting in the city of Stalingrad was fierce. Soviets hid all over the city, in buildings and even the sewers, attacking the German soldiers. This brutal battle began to take its toll on the Germans.
In November, the Soviets gathered and made a counter attack. They trapped the German army inside of Stalingrad. Soon the Germans began to run out of food. Finally, weak from lack of food and freezing from the cold winter, the majority of the German army surrendered. Hitler was angry with General Paulus for surrendering. He expected Paulus to fight to the death or commit suicide, rather than surrender. Paulus, however, surrendered and later spoke out against the Nazi's while in Soviet captivity.
Both sides had large armies of over 1 million soldiers. They also each had hundreds of tanks and over 1,000 planes. It is estimated that around 750,000 soldiers from the German army died and nearly 500,000 Russians.
The German army was led by General Friedrich Paulus. He was promoted to Field Marshall right before he surrendered to the Russians. Hitler was hoping that promoting Paulus would boost his moral and cause him not to surrender.
The Soviet Union army was led by General Georgy Zhukov.
Interesting Facts:
Adolf Hitler was very angry at General Paulus for losing the battle. He stripped Paulus of his rank and held a national day of mourning for the shame Paulus had brought on Germany by losing.
German tanks had trouble fighting in the streets of Stalingrad. Much of the city was turned into rubble which the tanks could not go around or over.
General Zhukov would lead the Soviet Union to many more victories by the end of World War II. He was one of the most decorated generals in the history of the Soviet Union.
Around 91,000 German soldiers were captured at the end of the battle.
A great book on the subject is "War of the Rats" by David.L.Robbins. Made into the film "Enemy at the Gates.
TOURNAMENT:
Each Round up to the Quarter Final, Semi-Final and Final will be 3x2 player games. Quarters will be 3x2 player gaames, Semi will be 5x2 player games and final will be best of 7.
To survive, you simply need to win one of your 3 games. Up to the Quarters where it becomes a KO.
Scoring will be 3 points for winning all 3 games, 1 point for winning 2 games, 0 points for surviving and winning 1 game. If you lose all 3 you are out of the tournament regardless of how many points you have amassed.
The player with the highest cumulative points will get a bye in the next round. If points are equal it goes to the most points gained in the current round, then previous round then the one before that. If it is still a draw it goes down to who finished all 3 games first. To be clear, this is by time the games finish. So it's in your interest to play as quickly as possible.
If an odd number of players are left after that then the next highest scoring player will also get a bye.
Play continues until there are only 8 players left then it is a straight knockout in the quartersm semi and final. 3 games in the quarters, 5 in the semi, and 7 in the final. If we go from 9 players to 7,6 or 5 remaining then the highest scoring player/players gets a bye like in previous rounds.

THE FINAL PREVIEW:
The 2 Semi-Finals were sooooo close (As expected). But here is what happened:
- Wow, this match up couldn't have been any closer. ViperOverLord 3 v 2 Tin Trumpet. An amazing tournament from 'TheTrumpet' but it's 'The Snake' in the FINAL!
- Oh Dear, the 4th Seed Maroshka851 fell for the old 'Blowing Smoke up Ass' Routine…..... The Heavy Favourote fell at the Semi-Final stage to 'The Organiser' Craig25. So close though, it was 3-2 with Craig25 getting a slight advantage in the number of starts. Maroshka couldn't come back! Surviving 15 Rounds and only being beat twice was a mirculous performance from the Tiger from Turkey!

Nothing to split us. 'The Snake' ViperOverLord accumulated an extra point over 15 Rounds and 47 games of Survivor Series Risk. Craig25 'The Organiser' has a healthy 543 Point lead on Ranking Points.
'The Snakes' 20 Points were made out of 4 KO's (Excluding Q+SF), Craig25 only had 2!
We have a favourite, due to Craig25's destruction of Map GOD Maroshka and a more steady progress through the Tournie, he is the Pre-Match FAV!

What looked like an amazing Match Up for a final wasn't even close, from a 6/7 start, the player starting 6 pressed home his advantage!

Commiserations to Craig25 (Me), I had an amazing 16 Rounds of Survivor Series Rik and am delighted to have come 2nd while facing of versus so many map specialists!
THE STORY OF THE SNAKES HISTORIC VICTORY:
- Round 1 - ViperOverLord Takes care of the Russian with the best name, beats redonkulosness 3-0. Dead Russian.
- Round 2 - ViperOverLord Moves onto 4 points, beating sparrticus (8th Seed) 2-1. Nice Result. Sparrticus yet to get off the mark.
- Round 3 - ViperOverLord moves onto a commanding 7 points, taking out 40th Seed Killerz999 who's sent to the stands in Round 3
- Round 4 - He was actually DEFEATED 2-1 in this one! ActorDay beat the Champ!
- Round 5 - ViperOverLord scuds the crazy horse Silly Knig-it 3-0 to move onto 6 points.
- Round 6 - The Snake eats thge Spider. ViperOverLord 2 v 1 Spider.Ear.
- Round 7 - Just another 2-1 victory V Me!
- Round 8 - Our 27th Seed ViperOverLord brings the Map Specialist Free Syrian Armies run to an end. The Viper wins 3-0. FSA leaves the scene on a creditable 8 points. The Viper up to a massive 15 POINTS!

- Round 10 - He survived his 2nd defeat, a 2-1 v Keefie!
- Round 11 - This is unfair I have to write this!!! He Scudded me 2-1 again!

- Quarter Final - 27th Seed ViperOverLord is the FIRST Player to reach the Semi-Finals with a 3-0 destruction of the 31st Seed Scrlet Lady. Scarlet outlasted 62 other players and leaves on an amazing 13 points! With the 3-0 in the QF 'The Snake' is looking good for the TITLE of ' STALINGRAD CHAMPION'.
