[Token 1v1] Alternate Realities: XL
Anyone with two slots available at all times can participate!

Image
This tournament is part of the Token Tournaments 1v1 Grand Finals.

Ever lost a game, just because of a dice roll?
Or perhaps, because you faced a tough opponent too early into the draw?
What if there were an alternate reality, where those twists of fate... didn't happen?

Well, now's the time for you to find out!

Gameplay
  • The tournament is basically two randomised 1v1 brackets, with the winners of each bracket facing off for the final victory.
  • To be clear - all players will be placed in the 2 separate 1v1 brackets ("alternate realities"), and both brackets will have different randomisations (using random.org).
  • If the same player manages to win both brackets, the final game is not necessary, and the player automatically wins the tournament.
The game settings for all games will be as follows:
  • Map: Various
  • Type: Standard
  • Troops: Automatic
  • Order: Sequential
  • Spoils: Escalating
  • Fortifications: Chained
  • FoW: Sunny
  • Trench: No
  • Round Limit: 20 Rounds

XL Gameplay
As the 40th edition of this series, and as part of the finals of the Token Tournaments, these are the additional rules that will apply:
  • The final round of each reality, as well as the finals of the tournament (Realities Collide), will be a best-of-3 set.
  • The maps will change every round, and will be a random selection of maps from the 39 that have been used in the series.
  • Maps across the two realities will be kept the same (i.e. Reality A Round 2 will have the same map as Reality B Round 2).
  • The result of the randomisation is:
    • Qualifiers - Duck and Cover
    • Round 1 - Germany
    • Round 2 - New World
    • Round 3 - First Nations South America
    • Round 4 - Canada
    • Round 5 - Arms Race!, Iberia, Madagascar
    • Realities Collide - 8 Thoughts, Europe 1914, High Seas
  • There are 42 players in this tournament. This means that 22 players will receive a bye in each reality.
  • For fairness, most players will receive 1 bye and participate in 1 qualifier round. This leaves 2 players that will receive two byes.
  • The rules I've applied in determining who will receive byes in both realities are:
    • Most number of Alternate Realities tournament wins.
    • Most number of Alternate Realities tournament wins with clean sweep.
    • Most number of games won in Alternate Realities tournament wins.

Re: [Token 1v1] Alternate Realities: XL [Qualifiers / Round

Postby anamainiacks on Thu Feb 04, 2021 12:10 pm

Update

As mentioned in the rules, 2 players will be receiving byes in both realities. Based on that, the 2 players have been identified as molespe and dowian2.

molespe is the sole 5-time winner for the Alternate Realities tournament series; while dowian2 edged out ultraman for the double bye due to amassing 4 more game wins over the course of his 4 tournament wins in the series. (jricart is not participating in the Token Tournaments Grand Final.)

The tournament has been set up and is ready to go. Reality A has been set up such that all players will receive an invite immediately.

I will be holding off on Reality B invites till all players have joined their Reality A games, just in case there are any players that drop out, as this will affect which players get additional byes.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask them.

To those who've played in this tournament series before - welcome back!
And to those who haven't - hope it won't be too confusing, but glad to have you here!
Finally, to everyone - good luck and have fun!

Update

The first games of Round 3 have been sent out, while the last game of the Qualifiers still continues.

It's been an exciting battle thus far, with only 7 of the original 42 players still being active in both realities. Of these, Serreski, Wizz00 and dowian2 currently hold the distinction of being active in at least Round 2 or further of both realities.

That's no cause for despair for the rest of the remaining players though, as many winners in the series have emerged even after being eliminated in Round 1 of the other reality. It's all depends whether the dice and draw is in your favour!

Good luck!

Update

We are now at the semifinals of the tournament, with both realities entering Round 5, and 4 unique players left in the mix.

Interestingly, 3 of the 4 players - tubaman, barterer2002 and DBandit70 never advanced past the Qualifiers in the opposite reality, while Serreski made it as far as Round 3 of Reality before being eliminated.

Whatever the case, every player is now on equal ground on the race to the finish.

Update

After a closely fought finals, it is Serreski who emerges victorious over DBandit70 in a 2-1 victory, and is crowned the winner of the Alternate Realities Token 1v1 finals. He will go on to face the other tournament winners in the Token 1v1 grand finale.
