It says 3rd century AD, which is 200s. Also, I'm not certain that that map is precise.

Its better to create something,what you can find more info then these.

Its posible to make perfect historical,if you want to create roman empire from 117AD,because you have very large info,from these period(provinces,maps,textual info),but big problem is that you want to create map,and dont want to know where some provinces go,and its look that you not interesting for historical acurate facts.
Now you only loose time in argue with me,and you dont have any logical explanation for these map.
But if you want to create incomplete map of roman emire from 300AD,then continue,but you also must know that Emire whas divide betwen 5 Emperor in that time,so if you search in history,you can give Continent names of these Emperors,and these is fact for these period.

Every thing is possible,if you want to be possible. :wink:

I can not answer to these question,maybe roman emire loose these terittory in 300AD,maybe you can insted these name for Country put names of 5 emerors who rules at these time in roman empire.
I know that in 117AD GERMANIA INFERIOR and GERMANIA SUPERIOR,is two roman provinces,not one provinces.

Good map and keep up the good work...........

piece of advice..make the map how you see best!! Maybe it doesn t have to reflect a true historical time!

I'd have to disagree hulmey, if you can be historically accurate, you should try as much as possible. "near enough" shouldn't be good enough, when, with a bit of work, you can actually get it right.

Not that I'm saying anything against this map in general, I think it's looking really nicely, but I'd also suspect qwert is just trying to help out. It seems like he has a lot of information on the time period, and I'd certainly advise listening to it rather than ignoring it just because it would create extra work.

A quick search reveals the roman empire only existed as a single entity from (44 BC – 286 AD), making a 300 AD map rather irrelevant, not to mention inaccurate, as during the years following 286AD there were many splits in the empire, a change of capitals (and constantinople is not even on this map?).

The 117AD year quoted was the year that the empire was at the height of it's power, and the largest land mass, making it in my mind, probably the best target for the map, as it would honestly include all of this territory.

So in closing, keep looking into it, justify your decisions. If you've got valid reasons for them other than "It's my map, I'll do it my way", lets hear them. If they're valid, then fantastic, but don't discard people who are just tryin to help :)

Or going the other end of the spectrum, to the fall of the roman empire, there's a good map in that 476 AD thread.

As tieryn just pointed out Constantinople didn´t have that name during the GREAT ROMAN EMPIRE and I hope that´s the one you´re going for.

I think this looks much better than previous attempts at a Roman empire map! 8)

here are some non-graphical things:

Constant should be Byzantium
Lugudinensis should be Lugdunensis
Lusitantia should be Lusitania
Mauritania -> Mauretania
Mesopotania -> Mesopotamia
Cillicia -> Cilicia
Pannosia -> Pannonia
Pamfylia -> Pamphylia

Well, going through the checklist. Your first post still needs to have from information requirements in the first post:

2) Number of continents (obviously 8 but you need to put it by countries anyway)
3) Descriptions of unique features or areas (ships and anchors)

I also don't know, and can't tell by looking at the map, what the anchors and ships do. I don't know how they connect. This needs to be evident from looking at the map before I can move it as part of the 'working' image part.

Edit: Don't know what connects to Balearn and vice versa as well.

It's written Caesar not the way you wrote it in the map. There are a lot of spelling mistakes vis-a-vis the names...perhaps you should look at a real Roman Empire map which has the names in Latin and then continue developing the map.

Because it was called Hispania by the Romans?

Iberia is just a term that was coined much later and refers to Spain (note English name derived from Hispania) and Portugal (Lusitania at the time of the Romans) - therefore Iberian peninsula or Iberia.
