2 player game question

when joining a two player sequential game, does the game creator always go first? I know that this is not the case for 4,5,6 etc player games, it is randomly assigned, but i seem to have gone second in every 2-player game i have joined.

ok, i've looked back, i took the first go once in my last nine 2 player games that i joined. Is this by chance or is it designed this way?

Yeah, my problem is the opposite....i create 2-player games and over all I have gone second in over 65% of the games.
