As do I. When we die we cease to be. End of story.116Soldier wrote:I am doing a survey and I was just wondering what you people think. I love having conversations on this topic!
That is interesting. How do you know that to be true?Frigidus wrote:As do I. When we die we cease to be. End of story.116Soldier wrote:I am doing a survey and I was just wondering what you people think. I love having conversations on this topic!
if you are expecting someone to provide how they know such a thing is true...expect this thread to get sidetracked faster than you can say threadjacked.116Soldier wrote:That is interesting. Well, my opinion is pretty much tied with why I'm an athiest. When it comes to death, specifically, I don't see any evidence that suggests any sort of split between mind and body. Our brain, the center of our "soul", if you want to call it that, is physical. If it is not sustained it will cease to work, and so we will cease to be.116Soldier wrote:That is interesting. Gotonkaed, I am merely trying to start a conversation.Frigidus wrote:Well, my opinion is pretty much tied with why I'm an athiest. I'm not trying to start a debate. Although if it must go there, then so be it. I was just wondering what the people of conquer club think. As I stated earlier I am doing a survey on why people believe certain things.got tonkaed wrote:also...im fairly sure i achieved enlightenment at somepoint so despite the fact that i dont think anything happens to me when i die, something wicked awesome involving me breaking the karmic cycle probably will.
just a fair warning that the notion of true often turns into a rather tangential debate.

So your saying that you choose to be an Atheist because you dismiss religious texts and "figure heads." Therefore nothing happens when you die, you just cease to exist. I have a question to follow that though, what if you are wrong?hecter wrote:116Soldier, you seem to be asking us to back up out beliefs with facts... The fact of the matter is: Xians and other religions have their religious texts and figure heads that they believe in and trust (as well as a few other things they consider to be facts, but we're not getting into that...) and atheists dismiss all these texts and figureheads as myths and so they go with the only logical conclusion that when we die, we rot in the ground.
That is a valid point. I am an agnostic (borderline atheist, really), and I have to say, sometimes I tell myself maybe I should believe in God just to be on the safe side. But then I reason, if everyone used that logic, and there was no God, that would just be a waste of life, wouldn't it? All that time going to Church, worrying about burning in Hell and whatnot, and at the end of it all you just gave the head of whatever church it is power. So I'll take my chances with what I actually believe.116Soldier wrote:So your saying that you choose to be an Atheist because you dismiss religious texts and "figure heads." ooh ok. I'm not too familiar with the teachings of buddhism. If you would care to explain?Grooveman2007 wrote:Buddhism.116Soldier wrote:What do you mean by that?Dekloren wrote:Reincartion until you reach enlightenment, then you are allwoed to ascend to higher conciousness.
I don't practice it so I wouldn't be the one to ask, but I think that the goal of Buddhists is to attain enlightenment through meditation.116Soldier wrote:ooh ok. ^^^ That. In a nutshell; then I'm fucked and I'm going to hell or whateverthefuck-religion-is-the-correct-one's-place. Or I wake up and I'm a fish. I have no way of knowing, so I'll just go for worm food...got tonkaed wrote:well then hes screwed if it so happens that the pagan gods hunt him down.

So then for the sake of conversation, lets say that the teachings of the Bible are true and there is a God. Would you like to know how you can be sure you would go to heaven?InkL0sed wrote:That is a valid point.
