For clarity's sake: once someone gets half of all votes plus one, he'll be lynched no matter what. Thus, anybody who is capable of correctly counting valid votes can determine when someone has been lynched. Of course, you still need the mod to make it official, but a majority of valid votes makes that a formality.

Two more things:

1. I see at least one invalid vote there (for lack of unvoting before)

2. Next time, give your target an opportunity to claim. Claims provide town with vital information and reduce the chances of accidentally killing your own power roles off.

Apparently (see the rules on p1) its not technically necessary to unvote, just good ettiquette or something.

What is a claim, what does that involve?

A claim is when the player who is about to lynch tells some or all of their role in hopes it will keep them from getting lynched. However, if they're scum...they typically lie about it.

Sometimes though even if you're protown, it can be beneficial to lie about your role so you don't paint a target on yourself for scum .

However, fake claims are the most used in the mafia games in these forums because so many of the games are themed. A fake claim is when you pick a character from the story and make a a random role for him to play so you don't have to give away your real role/character. The danger with doing this though is if someone counterclaims then you're either both getting investigated or both getting lynched or night killed. So be careful with trying this.

If I'm lynched, you guys suck. Also, I think it was either stupid or scummy of william to hammer me without any chance to claim. He might be mafia, so I'd suggest investigating him tonight.
If I'm not lynched, I might as well claim. I'm a vanilla townie. I ain't scum, but I have no real role. I know that's not much of a claim, but I still think you should take note of anyone pushing for my lynch too much, as you are baound to find out after you realized you just lynched a townie.

I see you are correct. That is a highly unusual rule, though, and I suspect Sierra only put it in to make things easier for you. While that means your vote is indeed valid and the lynch is solid, don't expect you'll ever see that rule again outside a newbie game

Basically, what you want as town, is to gather information. By voting for people, you put pressure on them. The first few votes, they'll typically ignore, but when they get closer to a lynch, they will claim (i.e. say what their role/character is). This is information too.

A reasonable claim should convince townies to unvote (and scum too, if they want to remain hidden). Of course, the accused person may not always be able to prove his claim, so often you'll have to decide for yourself whether you believe him or not.

If the accused person is mafia, he will fake a claim. He can't say he's mafia, or he'll get killed. So he'll have to make up something. Since he usually won't know all roles in the game (those PMs you saw on the first page usually remain private), this creates a whole new dynamic.

Essentially, a nearly lynched mafia member can do two things:

1. claim something that he expects won't be counterclaimed and thus looks credible.
2. claim a powerrole that he hopes will be counterclaimed, so that his team gains information from his death too. For example, one of the protown roles mafia always wants to get rid of, is the doctor. Thus, a mafia guy may claim doctor, and either survive a bit longer because people are afraid to lynch him, or get the real doctor to reveal himself, so that the next night, his remaining scum buddies know who to hit.

Fake claims can be tricky, though. There are, for example, other roles that may be able to refute your claim. If I falsely claim doctor and say that I protected you last night, a tracker (who follows his target and sees who he visits but not what he does) may know that I visited somebody else. Or a watcher (who sees which people visit his target, but not what they do) may know I never visited you at all. Or a roleblocker (who prevents his target from carrying out his night action) may know I didn't do anything at all last night. Etcetera.

In this particular game, it's a little different, because everybody knows exactly which roles are in the game and how the PMs are phrased. One thing you can do when you are pro town and you question somebody else's claim, is ask him about his win condition. Scum won't know how the pro town win condition is phrased, so they may betray themselves here. Or not, if there are different pro town win conditions ...

The usually kind people of Paxville showed a darker side of themselves today. They unanimously decided that their kind neighbour and friend browng-08 belonged to the notorious mafia the town was searching for. Showing no mercy, they tied his hands behind his back and tied the rope around his neck to the top branch of the highest tree in town. It was over in a second. Only after his death the town realized what an awful mistake they had made.

browng-08 (Townie) has been lynched.

Please pay attention to the following two notes:

1) All night actions (cop investigation, doc protection, mafia kill, mafia roleblock) are due to my inbox by exactly 48 hours after this post. I will probably not be online at that time, so the actual deadline would be the first moment I log in after the mentioned deadline.

2) I noticed Snowpepsi didn't post at all day 1. I will prod him (remind him about the game) now and I'll remind him again when day 2 starts. If he doesn't respond to my prods or doesn't post day 2, I'll have to replace him.

The next day the town woke up to what would seem like a perfectly ordinary day to an outsider. But the townies knew better. They hardly got any sleep, being afraid of being wacked in their sleep. The first thing they did when they met at the town square the next morning was do a headcount. It appeared one person was missing: william18. They found him lying in a blood-drenched bed, the bulletholes clearly visible. A search of his house proved him to be an innocent townie.

william18 (Townie) has been killed.

You know something though, you're right. I figured since snowpepsi was new that maybe she/he just missed day one. But I keep seeing him/her browse the forums and never contribute anything. Scum love flying under the radar in mafia games because they get forgotten about until close to the end. We can't afford another night kill...FOS(Finger of Suspicion) snowpepsi...Show yourself and explain or you get my vote as well.

Ok, I'm less then impressed at this point. Since my last post I've seen snowpepsi browsing the forums twice and he/she has yet to get in here and defend themselves. What are you hiding???

Anyway, time to upgrade my FOS to a vote. Vote - - - snowpepsi. Now, even though snowpepsi's actions are scummy, please don't hammer until we get a claim. Unless of course he/she never comes back in then by all means hammer away.
