But the Confederate flag doesn't stand for racism. God, slavery was only a small part of the civil war, why does the Confederate flag represent only that aspect. Comparing it to the Swaztika, a symbol that is solely defined by the conquest and cultural genocide of Europe and the world is foolish.

There are good reasons to dislike the flag. I dislike it because it shows that our states aren't nearly as united as we might hope. I don't dislike it just because a percentage of the people who rallied behind it were slave owners.

Its the same with a swastika its meaning has been for ever changed and etched into history as being synonymous with evil. It is what it is because individuals and history have defined it as such

history lesson - the civil war was a result of conflict between a rapidly expanding industrial north and an agrarian south. Slavery was a convenient add on.

I agree with you, but there is some cultures that use the swastika symbol that have nothing to do with Nazis. The Nazis stole the meaning of the symbol and tainted it.

If I see a Hopi Indian of Arizona with this symbol in their pueblo, I am not going to think he or she is a racist! But if I see a white guy with a shaved head and skinhead boots sporting the symbol, I might consider kicking his ass, because WE already beat those guys, remember?

Of course not because in that context you would see at as such - an ancient symbol but it still doesn't change the fact that that particular symbol was perverted by another culture. It is an inverted wheel one that takes in all that is in its path so no surprise that it was stolen by those who wanted to change the face of the world as well as the face of history.

The Buddhist swastika and the Nazi swastika are slightly different, though still similar.

The Nazi symbol is generally slanted and is the reverse of the Buddhist.

Why wouldn't he swear in on the Bible? He did place his hand on his heart when he did the whole "Pledge of Allegiance" thing, read the damned snopes article. Besides, this being the democracy that it is, anybody of legal voting status can vote for anybody for any reason they wish.
