I don't find the Red Sox to be all that deep in pitching. They've got Dice K, who may have been a phenom in Japan but was inconsistent last year. 4.40 era. Then Beckett, who is a among the top pitchers in baseball. Schilling is very solid for a number 3. But Lester their number 4 guy is unproven, and Tim Wakefield will give you an era above 4.00 every year. I would have to say the Blue Jays are much stronger from top to bottom.Colossus wrote:All Red Sox all the time. You want to talk about a deep pitching staff? They're pretty damn deep. And they have the fielding and offense to back that pitching up. I think they will have a very slow start because of the Japan nonsense, but they'll hit their stride around mid-May or so and charge right through to the end of the season.

While I should support the Toronto Blue Jays as i live about an hour drive away from toronto, i just cant support a team that with as strong as a line-up as they have, still cant pull together and dig a win out of left field if their lives depended on it. I'll admit on paper their lineup should boast a fair season, but remember, they had the same line-up last year and still maintained a well below standard that they should have easily exceeded. As my best bet, i could see Kansas City posting a good season this year... just a random guess really... they just seemed to get off to a fairly good start in the preseason and i think they might start to pull through later on.wrestler1ump wrote:Anyone expect the Blue Jays to make the playoffs this year? They do have Roy Halladay and AJ Burnett at the top of their rotation, and very solid 3, 4 and 5 guys. Plus they have Alex Rios (20+ homerun power), Scott Rolen (injured, but will deliver 20+ home runs), Frank Thomas (25+ homerun power), Lyle Overbay (15+ homerun power, plus many doubles), Vernon Wells (25+ home run power). I'd say we've got a well balanced squad. Halladay and Burnett have potential to be among the top pitchers in the league, well-rounded lineup, solid bullpen, and solid starting rotation.
I can see the Jays doing wellwrestler1ump wrote:Anyone expect the Blue Jays to make the playoffs this year? There's no doubt the Jays could challenge for a while, but I don't think they are quite good enough to make the playoffs, especially with how deep the American League is going to be this year. They have to play the Yanks and Sox 18 or 19 times becuase of the unbalanced schedule, and the Rays are going to be a decent team this year too. That means the Jays will be competing for a wildcard spot with the Yanks or Sox, Tigers or Indians, and Angels or Mariners. Everything hinges on them staying healthy because I don't think their pitching could handle injuries as it isn't too deep. 25+ HRs for frank thomas is perhaps a little optimistic because he isn't getting any younger. Still, as a Red Sox fan, I would be nervous if the Sox were involved in a playoff battle and had to win against the Jays. Its good to see another team emerging to challenge the Yanks and Sox.wrestler1ump wrote:Anyone expect the Blue Jays to make the playoffs this year? Pedro as a #2 starter would be impressive if it was 2001. Yeah, he could have a good year, but its only a matter of time before his surgically repaired arm comes flying of in the middle of a game. I think their staff is deep enough to win in the national league, but not against an AL team like the Red Sox or Tigers. (I would say Yankees too but there is no way they will get to the Series). Plus, are the Mets counting on El duque this year? How old is he? 39? 40? 45? The point is he's old too and Santana can't take the ball every third game. the Mets are probably a good bet to make the Series but I doubt they will win the whole thing.wrestler1ump wrote:Well actually baseball is underway with a couple games in Japan, but those made a travesty of Major League Baseball so I'm not counting them. Who do you guys expect to win the World Series this year? I'm going with the Mets. Any team that can boast Pedro Martinez as their #2 starter![]()

is going to be successful.
it's the same way here in Philly.jnd94 wrote:Im a die-hard Cubbie Fan (if you didnt already guess), and like every year, Its our year!!!
I believe that Dice K will be another Beckett in regards to the American League. Beckett had an ERA way above four his first year, and look what he has done since. Dice K needed a season (and off season) to adjust, and now that he has had the opportunity to do that, I think he will be very successful. Lester is a young guy, and, in my opinion, he has proven himself to be a solid #4, that is, if Buchholz, Colon, or Masterson don't replace him. Tim Wakefield, is at least a #5. He's been the Red Sox go-to-guy for years. When his knuckleball is really on, he's unstoppable. He can pitch far into games, and is a very durable and rugged player. With the Red Sox's hitting and defense to back up the pitchers, I believe that they will be on top of the division, not the Blue Jays.wrestler1ump wrote:I don't find the Red Sox to be all that deep in pitching. Mets have Carlos Beltran and David Wright. Thats a pretty good lineup if you ask me.riggable wrote:Mets can ride out on their pitching staff, which is deep as the fucking pacific ocean this year, but shit, their hitting and fielding? I dunno. there pitching staff is ace, but their field isn't anything special. Their hitting might lack, two.
Not that the mets ahve that much competition in their division. I'm expecting them to reach the postseason.
not the Yankees though (thank god) they're still rebuilding and you shouldn't see anything special from them this year. Red Sox will take that division.
I also don't think the Rockies are going to be anything special this year even though they were doing good last year.

If only Willis can get back to his old form, and the bullpen is strengthened up a bit, and we don't have injuries to the lineup (get well soon Curtis Granderson!) then Detroit has a great chance to be the best team in baseball. No apologies to Boston, who I'm sick of. Oh and I hope the yankees go 0-162, and then fold.

The Angels have quite a solid team, just hope that they don't fall to the Sox again in the post season...they seem to have quite a difficult job in the playoffs. Although this year, I think the Angels will beat the Red Sox. But they should both be tough competitors with each other.TaylorSandbek wrote:Mets have Carlos Beltran and David Wright. If their pitching does its job, they wont need any more hitting then that.
But the Mets wont win. Look out, its going to be the Angels.
Ah and you know what sucks is I live in freaking baltimore and the orioles will never be good until Angelos sells them.. Favorite team is the Oakland A's baby!
Angels will win.
Baseball is by far the best sport in the world.
