Well for me the dice are one of the things you have to deal with. Playing risk the old way it took so much time to set up the board and all the pieces. The good part was when someone rolled and got good dice I could deal with it because I felt they earned their roll. They were actually rolling the dice themselves. With a dice generator system (random.org?) on the internet it's easy to feel robbed, almost like the computer is against you or something. It's a trade-off for not having to setup and put away the board the old fashioned way.
easy, easy... come on... even if he did blow 11 guys trying to get a 1 army on his first turn, there could have been other factors he isn't telling us about.. i mean, this army of 1 could have been named rambo...-0
p.s.-this isn't a dice thread, it is a bitch about "a bad decision i made" thread.

no, no, no... don't try to talk any sense into him. it is obviously not POOR PLAY to lose 11 on your first turn in an escalating game, it is the fault of the dice!!-0
How can losing a dice roll be poor play?
Do you click the little button differently or something? Maybe next time I'll try twiddling my left nut with my right hand while chanting a Dice charm in that classic, monotone-Catholic way. Then losing a roll can't be 'poor play'.
Having a drink isn't bad either-- but when you have 11 in an hour... it could get sloppy. My point was that he should had known when to say when
Let us consider the following things as they are all important:
No one is saying the dice are not fair for me, just that the dice are not fair.
The dice are therefore not fair for everyone - the playing field is even.
Some people get very high scores on this game.
Therefore there must be a way to win in spite of the unfair dice.
Therefore the fault lies not with the dice but with the player.
Here is the problem, we only see our own crappy rolls. We don't see the crappy rolls of everyone else. We can't rejoice on their bad fortune, only cry at our own. We forget when things go our own way with the dice, so our own memories are very selective. We assume that if X > Y then X must beat Y. We forget that the laws of averages only applies to very large numbers and frankly most of the battles (like 6 on 3 for example) simply don't meet that criteria.
You know perhaps it's not the dice after all. Perhaps it's the nature of the online game, and the expectations we place on a turn. Since the game is so slow we almost demand to not only increase our armies but attack and gain a territory every turn in order to get that precious card. We almost expect the game to hand both victory and a card to us every turn. Ain't going to happen and if it did I might stop playing the game. Victory must be won, not given as a gift.

definitely true. Dice are random, and random =/= fair. But they're unfair for everyone so there's no real reason to complain. The only reason you never see your own small army defeat a larger one, is because you don't attack larger armies very often. But I'm sure your small armies have defended against larger armies many a time.

Wait a minute. You're making the same mistake that I did. Dude isn't complaining, he's asking a valid question about whether or not it is fun. A question that most of us seem to be ignoring and fixating on the fact that dude is a whiner.
So, can we get a poll started? Can we get a show of hands as to who thinks it's fun to be on the wrong end of an f'ed up batch of dice?

Oh, well, in that case... yes, I do think it is. If the dice were fair, rather than random, then the game would be too predicable. One of the most interesting aspects of strategy is that you can't count on an attack to go as planned, so you have to prepare for a worst-case scenario, as well as a best-case scenario. This is an integral part of strategy in real life, and I think it's also an important, and fun, part of this game.
Well, 160 points lost yesterday due to dice? Yep, happened to me. The 4 games were so absurd it made me sick. Attacks such as 15v14 ends 3v14, 10v6 ends 3v6, 25v14 ends, 6v12. I don't get it and I doubt I ever will. Anyway, I am now speechless regarding the dice on this site and I think I will jump on GK's side. LOL. Is it fun? NO!

OR you could go over to random.org and pepper them with your accusations... better yet, you could find out where they are based and stage a late night raid to expose them as the liars they are, and you will truly be a hero to all in the CC and dice based online gamers in the world!!! if you are all so sure, why don't you go bother the guys that supply the dice?-0

I've always posted in complaining dice threads saying there random, but I dunno... THEY always COME and GO in streaks!!! winning a dozen in a row.... losing a dozen.... wierd, but it NEVER seems to be win 1 lose 1 or even CLOSE to it....
