The book Rambo is a masterpiece. The movie was good but compared to the book it missed the real conflict between John Rambo and the police guy (tesel?). Hamburger Hill was a good movie and surprised it slipped my mind :s

It's concerns the Vietnam war in a tangential way, but some mention should be given to Jacobs Ladder. There are very few movies that deal with psychological post-war afflictions, and in fact, if you look at it going back to the Novel, Rambo is really about a guy with PTSD... they just turned it into a comic franchise to turn a quick buck.

Also, not a cinematic masterpiece, but one you could really feel the "worms eye view" of the fighting was Hamburger Hill.

And I think "We Were Soldiers" has some underrated dialogue, like the following:

Col: I think you oughta get yourself an M-16.
Sgt Mjr: Sir, if the time comes I need one, there'll be plenty lying on the ground.

... tell me, who else but Sam Eliot could pull of that line today.

it's a hard pick. not between good morning vietnam and born on the 4th but between the rest. they're all so different. but i love Full Metal Jacket the best. it show's the insanity and piontlessness so well. and i love the soundtrack and the battle in wei city.
my dad, who was in the war, hated the real good morning vietnam guy.
