If you look through certain players games (anyone who has a good record) with the map rank you can get a good idea of which maps/game types affect which parts of luck. For example, I win about 80% of all no card games playing first, and about 90% of Waterloo games playing first, so I imagine the luck of starting first is more important on larger maps.MajorRT wrote:Looks like it's split between luck and skill (except for certain boards, or to freestyle first).....too bad we can't control the drop or place armies like in the "Risk" board game....then skill would rule!

Good idea....I wonder if that could be programmed in...and I wonder if it could be accepted as a suggestion!Pedronicus wrote:Someone mentioned earlier Chess. This might be the key to a fair game. If army placement on the drop were predetermined so that no one player had a contitnent - it would be more chess like.
This would remove 1 level of chance that currently exists and make for a fairer game.
You are definitely going to have to explain this one ... among other issues, not all maps have anything close to even continents. In some cases, having a continent initially pales to the overall army placement.MajorRT wrote:Good idea....I wonder if that could be programmed in...and I wonder if it could be accepted as a suggestion!Pedronicus wrote:Someone mentioned earlier Chess. One possible way would be for the computer to keep generating army placements until each continent had at least 1 neutral in it....or another would be to have each continent have at least 1 country from both sides....the program could be made to satisfy whatever conditions are required for a more even drop...PLAYER57832 wrote:You are definitely going to have to explain this one ... among other issues, not all maps have anything close to even continents. If you like even starts, though I suggest you try the Realms, Fuedal and the new Arms Race maps. ALL have quite even placements. ... and strangely, it is one reason so many like to avoid them.

I still think you are cuasing almost as many problems as you are fixing. If terribly uneven drops upset you, either play one of the maps I mentioned or just don't play 1v1.MajorRT wrote:One possible way would be for the computer to keep generating army placements until each continent had at least 1 neutral in it....or another would be to have each continent have at least 1 country from both sides....the program could be made to satisfy whatever conditions are required for a more even drop...PLAYER57832 wrote:You are definitely going to have to explain this one ... among other issues, not all maps have anything close to even continents. lol! i havnt read the entire thread, so not sure if someone already pointed this out.. but this is brutal math! if you're going to take the 25% added up from #2-6, you don't get to add the 25% remaining from #1.MOBAJOBG wrote:These are my criterias to win in 1vs1 games.
1. Who is lucky enough to start first? ...this alone gives a game away 75% of the time.
2. Map coverage and playing experience as well as game settings ...8%
3. Skill in armies utilization such as deployment, attack & fortification ... 8%
4. Dice performance ...4%
5. The drop ...4%
6. Misc. unknown element...1%
So, even if you go 2nd at least as far as I'm concerned if you're the beneficiary of 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 then you've about 25 + 8 + 8 + 4 + 4 + 1 = 50% chance to win a 1vs1 game. So, go out there and fight ...don't give up in despair.
d'Oh! you said it homer_jay!!!-0homer_jay wrote:your math gives player 1 75% chance to win and player 2 gets a 50% chance...

it's possible if they're both giving 125%owenshooter wrote:d'Oh! you said it homer_jay!!!-0homer_jay wrote:your math gives player 1 75% chance to win and player 2 gets a 50% chance...
Absolutely agreed!azezzo wrote:the importance of the drop depends on the game and the seetings.
what i hate more is a player who thinks he has a bad drop who proceeds to bitch and moan about it, or worse rip into the other player who had no control about it, and dont tell me about the damn foe list.
bad drops happen to everyone, but no one complains when they get a good drop, its all part of the game and balances itself out.
It depends whether you include freestyle against new recruits or not.MajorRT wrote:Does anybody know, or can they figure out using thr CC Map Rank/Greasemonkey scripts, what is the highest current winning percentage on Classic 1v1 games?
(Assuming 50% luck, and 50% skill, it should be about 75%)
