I could see if, instead of having someone's name removed from the foe list automatically if they join a game with a foe, making it so that you CANNOT join the games of anybody you have foed, EXCEPT in tournaments (this would be an automatic program override -- if the game type is "tournament" foe lists will not be honored -- and everyone should know this in advance).
That seems more in line that requiring that a name be removed. I WOULD support that change.
I agree, this would be a better change. Only problem is that most of those opposing the OPs idea has been opposed to this too (both in this and other threads).
And yea, tournament and battle royal games should override any foe-list ofc.
There will always be some dissent but this is a far better Idea the foe list should be used equally and if you do not want to play a person enough to foe them then you should not be able to join or have them join your games...
This won't help to revive the speed/freestyle game though. It really is a stuggle to get a game started in the evening. Its rife with players who think the ignore list is some kind of revenge. As far as I am aware I personally am on 3 ppls lists. One of these players has a Foe list longer then WAR and PEACE and would not even notice if he joined a foes game and one of the foe was removed.
Lets try and stay on subject guys..I'm not interested in your idea in my thread..Make your own thread and I'll view it with an open mind.
Thx
We are on subject we are discussing changes to the foe list that should be made. Just because your primary idea has been mostly rejected does not mean the continued discussion of changes to the Foe list in different ways is off topic. In fact it is the next logical step to discuss realistic remedies for the disparity. As far as the speed freestyle create your own games problem solved...

hello mate,
I am not sure how taking a person off a foes list when they join a game with said Foe, will help you fill up new speed games... Supposedly if the person with lots of Foes joins it only gets rid of the one they already joined with and the prolific foe'er with still block entry of any other foe.
Also if they join just for one game, there would have to be notification that a person is being removed with a choice 'join and remove' or 'Don't remove, don't join'. Otherwise people could be losing someone they genuinely hate from their list by accident. Therefore the joiner could just play the game and then re-add that foe.
Hi jiminski,
Even if it removes one foe it will be a start. We take small steps here,to solve a big problem.
Why would they have to be a notice send to these offenders?
I think not.Thats not in my idea !
Once this Idea gets approved or otherwise.
I have some other Ideas for the foe'er.

How about whenever anyone enters any game with anyone who happens to be on his foes list, that person's whole foes list is automatically deleted, and he has to start over again?
It only serves him right, the bastard, trying to enter a game with someone on his own foes list!
Anyone on board? No?
Better idea: Leave the foes list exactly as it is, and allow anyone who is not on the foes lists of anyone in a game to enter that game without restriction. Let's face it, if the other member didn't place you on his foes list, that means he has no problem with you entering his games!

I'm onboard with that .Lets not leave the foes list as it is and change it the way I am suggesting.

KoE alerted me to this issue in a game we played together, and got me interested in saying something. I completely agree that this is an issue.
I have not read all the pages, just the first, so this may have been previously mentioned, but:
I think an even better solution, rather than removing your foe from your list when joining a game, is that there will be an error message saying something like "You are unable to join this game because XXX is on your foe's list" This would prevent players from joining games with players they dislike, but also fix the issue of joining a foe's game while preventing them to join yours. If they are your foe, you should not be playing them AT ALL! If you really want to join their game, you should take them off your list and then join.

I totally agree--
If I have someone on my ignore list it merely means that I wish not to play with them at all. Like Poo, I usually always go through the lineup to see if anyone's on my ignore list before I join, on occasion I miss one. It would be a great feature to have-- so much simpler. On the flip side, I certainly don't want someone that foe'd me to join a game that I'm in either.

What are your reasons for using the foes list so extensively anyways?

I don't have an extensive foe list, but these are not people I keep in mind. So, that is why I really would like as a minimum notification, but preferably just a "you can't join if someone is one your foe list" .... with the above -noted exceptions for tournaments and Battle Royale games.
I don't care if someone has a foe list of 2 or 200. If they don't want to play those other people -- be it temporarily or permanently, they should not be able to play them at all.
This change won't prevent people from using foe lists as "strategy". If they are limited in the number of games they can play, it is far more likely they will only foe those who actually deserve to be foed.
The way the foe list currently works is silly. It excludes people from games that don't belong to the foe'er.In an 8 player game who cares who you might have to play.
Petty minded people have these long lists and shouldn't even be playing in an online community if they are that shallow or fragile.
It would be useful to summarise the details that have been generally agreed upon and equally those which are still contentious.
Perhaps it would then be possible to formulate a carefully worded poll to try and reach a consensus.

random me statistic @ 13 December 2008 - 1336 posts : 232nd most public posts (not counting Tower of Babble) of all time.
The one detail that is the most contentious is changing the foes list at all, as the foes list is 100% perfect as it is right now, and it needs no changes at all.
If any changes must be made, then those changes should be options available to each respective member, and the way the foes list is right now, exactly, should also be one of those options, preferably the default.

PROBLEM: Some people suggest public games are being seriously limited by extensive foe lists without real cause. (thats, for "strategy" reasons rather than to avoid "jerks"). Others suggest that foe list is being used appropriately, but that tweaks might be warranted.
ORIGINAL IDEA was that if you joined the game of a foe, that person would be removed from your foe list.
Primary for:
It is not "fair" that someone can join yoru games, but they cannot joing yours
Primary arguments against:
1. Right now, you can join by accident
2. There are legitimate reasons someone might want to join with a foe.
3. The foe has "done wrong" and deserves to be punished, but the person foeing does not. (primarily Klobber's argument)
IDEA 2: That putting someone on your foe list means you cannot join their games as well as preventing them from joining yours. This idea, while not the original posting, seems to be the most popular.
Primary argument for:
1. "fairness"
2. Thought that it would encourage people to only use list for "true" foes. (i.e. those they don't want to play with .. period)
Primary argument against:
That person being foed has "done wrong" and "deserves" to be punished, but one doing the foeing does not. (Klobber used the restraining order analogy).
(2 related IDEAS: (see pertinent threads for full discussions)
1. (alread listed as "pending") to notify folks if they are joining a game with a foe. Discussed mostly in another thread, but would solve "accidental joining" issue noted above.
2. Allow folks to initiate games where foe lists are temporarily suspeded.
NOTE: There seems "universal" agreement that Tournaments and perhaps Battle Royales should have "automatic" foe list overrides, without someone actually having to delete foes (and, presumably, put them back on) Anyone joining a tournament should be so-advised.

Same thing I and others have said with an additional step makes the most sense and most people agree On this point, with exception of Klobber and OP...
I've thought some more about this proposed change, and I have come to a different opinion on it from what I've posted above.
Now, I think it's a good idea, for the most part. Details:
1. I think that there should definitely be at least a warning when one tries to enter into a game with anyone on his foes list.
2. I also would have no problem with being prevented from entering into any games with anyone on my foes list.
3. However, I think that having my foes list tampered with in any way if I happen to accidentally enter into a game with someone on it would be goofy and unfair.
Can you guys live with my above 3 opinions? Any thoughts?

#1 is already pending
Agree with #2 & #3. Additionally, as said before, some special provision is needed for Tournament and Battle Royales.
Yeah I just looked before I started this thread. Its different idea.
If you remain in your foes game, after a warning.I would like that your foe be removed from you list as default.

Lol we kind of got that By this thread but general consensus is that is unrealistic...
