Allow Team rating only for teammates (small tweak)

Post by PLAYER57832 »

Specifics:
Because this is a small and specific tweak, I am starting a new thread. If the rating system is changed, it won't apply.

Allow TEAM rating for teammates only, not opponents.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
[list]

Right now, you can rate opponents as well as teammates on "team play". To me, this just sets up abuse and blurrs the distinctin of team specific play.

why?

if i play against a team i want to be able to rate their teamwork. it's easy to spot a well oiled team from a crappy team and rate accordingly.
it makes sense the way it is now. if i see a guy that attacks his team mate or doesn't reinf his team mate i want to give him a 1 for team work

#1 because you don't know what went on "behind the scenes" and THAT is what really matters. A "well oiled" team will show itself by winning. What folks don't know is if one person happened to be a bad sport, but was overshadowed or if they communicated well. Did one person dictate the strategy and ignore anything the other person said?

You would rate BOTH badly and that just is not always appropriate. .. something you would have no way of knowing.

right now you have 3 other ratings, fairplay attendance and attitude. aside from attendance fairplay and attitude are subjective.
same goes for teamwork. i don't see why i should not be allowed to be subjective in this case also. if i think the opposing team had great teamwork then i should be able to rate them a 5.

Really and truly what you are trying to do is assess skill. And skill was specifically excluded from the rating system. If skill were added in, I would say "sure", but Team play is about whether a player makes a good teammate, not whether the team won or lost. All you see is the final result, not how it happened.

Subjectivity means there is a difference of opinion. Here, you are voicing an opinion without knowing what actually happened behind the scenes.

If a team is bad, it might be one person's fault or it might be both. You, the opponent have no real way of knowing. You will condemn one person for what might not be their fault at all. That is just plain wrong.

All you can see are the same things you see in any game ... and the ratings already cover those issues.

aren't the other ratings also subjective (except attendance)?

If you read the thread, even attendance has become subjective. Subjectivity is one thing, this goes well beyond subjectivity.

As I said before. You are judging what you cannot see. You see the results and say "that team worked well and this team did not", but ALL you are seeing is the results. You are not really seeing how that team really works.

Further, you are criticising or rating BOTH players without knowing if one player maybe added a good deal and the other did not.

You are judging skill, not coordination and team play. The only ones who can truly judge team play are those on the team. If skill is added, then you can use your subjective judgment on whether the team showed good skill not.

This is like a blind person saying "I like that color .. it feels nice". They are not really judging color at all

I agree with you. It's just weird to rate someone for teamwork when they weren't even in your team...

if their team had a good teamwork and they beated you hard, then its natural to rate them for it. If they looks like they played so great togheter it is a great teamwork no matter what.

Well it is. It comes from the discussion about the new rating system where most people agreed that you can make a meaningful observation about your opponents teamwork skills. But now with the system inplace it has been made quite clear that the average member can't rate without bias or being vindictive so IMO this possibility should be taken out. ;)

I made suggestion that only teammembers be allowed to rate teamwork, but it has "disappeared" into the third page. With only 1 person commenting.

If you wish to bring it back, here is the link:

thread "Allow Team rating only for teammates (small tweak)" - posts on 28 June 08
merged with
thread "Rating for teamwork by non team member." - posts on 19 July 08

Both make the same basic suggestion/observation.
