TYRELL, secret alliance [noted]

Post by joz00 »

TYRELL
Game 2764215

Accused of trying to have a secret alliance with me.

I received a PM from this player that follow:

"hey
Sent at: Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:12 am
From: TYRELL
To: joz00
hey on the lakes game, plz break yelllow, hes gonna get a big bnus next turn, ive been breaking him the last 2 rounds so i thin its ur turn now, thx"

There has been no chat in the game and he did not ask me to do this in the game chat. Seemingly he believes I will work with him through PM while not posting his intentions in the actual game chat. Feel free to check my PM's inbox to confirm.

LOL. Thanks but I'm no girl. I'm not as technically savvy as some so you'll have to excuse me. I'll try to upload the ss when I get home from work.

Just to be more clear about the screenshot, you cannot upload straight from your computer. You need to upload the image to a hosting site such as photobucket.com then you can insert the url into the image tags.

Thanks for the explaination, I appreciate it! Here are the SS of both the Ingame chat showing no prior declaration by Tyrell as well as the PM I received from him. Hope this helps.

Tyrell, you admitted in game chat which is posted above that you knew the rules yet you decided to circumvent them so people would not attack you. I don't know what kind of explaination you can concoct ...

honestly i dont see how that falls under diplomacy....
it is none of the things listed in the rules "proposing truces, negotiating alliances, and coordinating attacks"

Clearly that is coordinating an attack. He asked me to attack another player in secret so that the targeted player would not know that two of his opponents had strategized to take his territories in order to keep him from receiving bonuses. Tyrell even stated in the game chat (if you read it) that he decided not to post his request ingame because he was fearful of what the other players might do to him for suggesting that I focus my attacks on yellow in order to break his bonus.

The effect would have been different if Tyrell had openly stated in the game chat that he wanted me to attack yellow. It would have informed yellow of both Tyrell's attempt to make an agreement with another player and would have informed yellow whether the other player (me) was going to focus on him as well in a concerted effort. Yellow then could act accordingly in the game, either changing his strategy or trying to effect his own agreement/alliance/truce/shared targets with other players in order counter what was openly known. If I had agreed secretly to attack yellow because Tyrell and I decided to do so via PM instead of ingame chat, Yellow would not know that two players were working together and would be at a disadvantage.

To say that Tyrell's private request for me to attack someone was not a breach of conduct basically allows anyone to PM other players asking them to attack a target as long as they do not state that they want an alliance, or a truce.

coordinating an attack is different then saying please break this guy... coordinating requires 2 players working together the way i see it there wouldnt be any instance in which the 2 of you would have worked together to break him so its not really coordinating.

He asked me to work with him towards a common goal of breaking yellow's bonus. If that isn't the definition of coordinating I do not know what is (2 players, Tyrell asking ME to act in a coordination fashion to ensure a player (YELLOW) does not receive his bonuses thus aiding BOTH of us).

Would it have been ok in your opinion if I PM him back and asked him to break another players bonus in return? Where would you specifically draw the line? I feel that it was a violation but it's up to the mods to make the determination. I don't even know what the punishment would be.

Still waiting Tyrell.

the rule is that ALL discussion about the game has to be made in the game chat.
Have you noticed that it is a fog of war game? Most people left negs (before ratings were instated) when people PUBLICLY shared info about dispositions of hidden/fogged armies. Can you imagine what they think of SECRETLY sharing info via PM?
It's an offense in NONfog game.
OP has all rights to complain.Tyrell should be reprimanded.

If someone PMs me about moves in a game, I would report too.

No secret diplomacy

Any form of diplomatic discussion between opponents must be posted in the game chat in a language that all opponents understand. Diplomacy includes, but is not limited to: proposing truces, negotiating alliances, and coordinating attacks. Secret diplomacy can be hard to prove, but if you suspect it you should leave the players in question appropriate ratings. If you feel certain about players engaging in secret diplomacy consider reporting them in the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum by posting a new topic.

Clearly, from that pm and from the game chat, TYRELL was attempting for a secret alliance with joz00. Guilty as charged in this game. However, since this is the first report on him, if there will be more evidence or proof from other games to surface then we could deal with this matter more appropriately. For now, this is noted for the public eye to see and for future reference. This serves as warning and advise to all to strictly play the game fairly.
