Dust2

6 continents

Ok, here is my idea: a map based on the counterstrike map de_dust2.

The red lines are connections between countries. The connection between CT Spawn _2 and Bombspot A _3 is going under Bombspot A _1, I hope thats clear.

The main issue i'm having, is finding proper names for the countries.
So if you have name ideas, let 'em know here.

I haven't thought about the continent bonuses, because I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people here with a proper understanding of this game's dynamics :) (which I don't really have yet).

I also thought it would be nice to give an extra 1 or 2 armies for holding a bombspot country.

Graphics:
The fonts aren't good yet, I know.
(update: fonts would become like middle 2 and 3)

Bottom Line:
Is this a decent idea ?
Or should I just throw it in the bin ?

It looks cool... but all the 1, 2, 3.... annoying.
ImageChildren, this is what happens to hockey players, druggies, and Hillary Clinton.

Rope. Tree. Hillary. Some assembly required.

i guess i've jsut bene dissolusioned with the worlds 2.0 map, but it seems a bit small. Its a really nice looking map, with some great concpets, but it looks liek its only big enough for 3-4 players at the most.

Instead of 1, 2, and 3 try something like BombspotA NW or something like that.

Do you think splitting up some countries would help?
Or should I alter the original counterstrike map with some more areas and connections?

The naming idea is good. But I'm going to wait for some more ideas before changing all the names.

I've worked out the Bombspot B and the CT Spawn areas with some extra countries and better names.

Its good for a few people playnig it, but it would make anything over 4 player cramped. A lot of maps have good playability with small groups, but fail because they don't support larger amounts of players.

Have you checked into any copyright issues? There have been many ideas for maps based on video game levels and such that haven't been put through because of copyright problems. I would suggest looking into that and clearing any problems before you work any more, because you might not be able to legally use the map.

I wouldn't know how to check for copyrights :)

I can't image anyone will have a problem with this,
it's a 2D version of a 3D map...

Look into the Game's or Developer's FAQ...they will most likely state something about copyrights.

Perhaps this could fall under 'modding'? Who knows. Look closer, otherwise I can't see the production of the map continuing.

I've send a mail to Valve asking about the copyright. I hope I get an answer.

I didn't receive an answer from valve. I did, however, get an answer from the author of dust 2.

To be honest, I don't know for sure.

However, I suspect you will be ok if:
a) it is for a non-profit purpose, AND
b) you state the map is from Counter-Strike AND
c) you provide a link to http://www.counter-strike.net AND
d) you remove the map if requested by Valve Software.

Chances are, it won't matter at all. Dust is already used in all sorts of dubious
ways! Stick to the 4 points above and you should be alright.

I guess I won't continue the map because of point a.

Would you choose supremecy if it lead to isolation?

Personall,y i like the style and layout of the map, and we definately could take out any references to CS and Dust2, change the names and we're fine.

I might be completely wrong, but really the only thing we're taking is the name, Dust2, and the logo in the middle. The general layout is used in a completely different way than its used in CS and i don't think they'd bother to copy the layout of the map in uses other than CS or other FPSs
