Poker Hands

Post by bluskeye »

I was brainstorming last night and came up with this: 54 cards layed out randomly in a 6 by 10 rectangle with 6 spaces randomly included. The object is to take over poker hands. each player holds 5 randomly selected cards on the map initially. All other cards are held by 'neutral'.
Play in usual Risk fashion. Your highest 5 cards count for bonus and you receive 1 re-enforcement for every 3 cards you hold. you can't move through the 6 empty spaces.
Bonus re-enforcements would be something like: Pair=1, 3 of a kind =3, 4 of a kind=6, straight=5, flush (easy to get when you can see the cards)= 3, straight flush=8, Royal flush=12.
The difficult part may be the random layout of the cards at the start of each game. Also the 2 wild cards could be used to moderate the game, of add another challenge. they could always start as neutral & cause a loss of 1 per turn to any card they are next to.
Whaduyathink? 8-) cool Huh?

erm...how do you propose to manage the random layout of the cards? or is it just one set layout?

There is already a Poker map in Final Forge. It has somewhat different game mechanics than you proposed, but it's the same general concept.

Thanks for the great positive input. I take it you guys (gal or two?) know something about programming. I don't. But I love to invent games and other useless stuff. My friend 'Kid_Dynamite' & I created a version of RISK we play on the original board that uses the cannons, horses and men as what they are. We also added forts. We were surprised as to how well it played so we copyrighted the rules. If you are interested in seeing them ( a Word document), message me our E-Mail and ill send it to you. Thanks again for the pos. F.B.

I think you missed the sarcasm in our posts...

However - you do need to reread this post.

Your idea about cannons and horses sounds interesting - on a similar note - I suggest you check out the "Waterloo" map - as that has cannons, horses & infantry.

Your right. I searched 'Poker' and see there's lots of good input there. Ill play you when they quench the map. And don't worry I live on biting sarcasm. I think Ill go bite a whole bowl of it right now.
By the way 'Quench' ??? a bunch of geeks with pencil necks ticking away on a keyboard comparing themselves to blacksmiths??? It reminds me of your tough 'Iceman' Graphic. :D

Wahey - we got a fiesty one here!!!

Yeah - we call it "Quenching" cos we've named it the "Foundry" -> There's a bit a theme going here...

Drafting room/Scrap Heap/Final Forge.

Will definitely play you on Poker (and royal flush yer ass!!!) when it is "Quenched" :P :P !

C.

PS - am interested to hear your "infantry, cavalry, artillery" idea though.
