Comic Book fans?

Anyone here into comics? I used to be really into comics up until last November. I had to cut out some expenses and comics were the first to go. When I was a kid I was really into JLA, New Mutants, Avengers and Avengers West Coast. In the Early and Mid 90’s through 2000 it was all about X-Titles but I also liked JLA, Guy Gardner, Impulse, and some Spider-Man stuff. In recent years it was Runaways (GREAT comic), New Mutants/New X-Men, and Avengers. Young Avengers, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, the whole bit. X-Factor was also a must read and Deadpool was always funny. If I was still buying them right now I’d be getting all the Avengers Titles, Runaways, X-Force, X-Factor, and probably Thor. Any other comic fans, what are/were you into?

Not everything you mention. But you hit on some fine stuff there - Impulse (one of the great characters until they made him grow up. Then they had to kill him off because he'd become so dull), Young Avengers. Runaways.
Best ongoing character right now, Invincible.
Best mainstream character ever, Daredevil.
Recent classics include a few reborn UK characters - Battler Britton, and Dan Dare, to name but two.
I love the George RR Martin-based "Hedge Knight" comics.

When I was into comics, this is what I usually read:

Marvel Reader (Usually Sam Kieth's Wolverine)
Amazing Spiderman (Eric Larsen)
Spiderman (Todd McFarlane--the best web artist around!)
X-Force (Rob Liefeld)
X-Men (Jim Lee)
Wolverine (David Finch)

Those were my "got-to-get" comix.

It has been so long since I picked up a comic. It is quite tempting to get back into it again, but it is an fairly expensive habit, especially when you have other financial responsibilities to take care of.

I was mostly a Marvel fan...but when McFarlane and the crew split from Marvel, that kind of made me uninterested in comics for a good long time.

I only read X-men comics. And followed the Uncanny X-Men until Gambit was kicked out...... How could he do that to the Morlocks? HOW!!!

But I always collected comics. Mostly just what I thought would bring a fair price later. Youngbloods, the Atom, whatever... lots of individualistic stuff though.

I've just realised I haven't mentioned one of my very favourites.
If you've ever roleplayed, or know people who do, read Knights of the Dinner Table. The best way to get it is in the collected Bundle Of Trouble volumes, which leaves out all the game-related essays and articles.

I really hope this WOWIO thing helps me jump into THE WALKING DEAD series. I would be back into comics if I hadn't missed it. But such is life in the boonies.

Does Batman have a better story now that the film is out? Like as in, to sell more comics they are trying harder to have some good plots? And are Sam & Max Freelance Police still in print? Anyone?

You can download books there for free and they pay an amount of money to the author, they finance themselves through ads. They used to be USA-only and you had to prove you were a US citizen in order to register (because of international copyright issues and stuff I guess).

Happened to pick up Sandman when I was cramming for exams a few years back. It is unlike anything else in the comic dept. I highly recommend ... don't know where you find it since the last one was back in the mid-90's.

I love reading:
the uncanny X-men (personal favorite)
ironman
and the Avengers

I'm not a huge fan of the way some of the characters are drawn in the newer age of Marvel, the majority of my avenger comix are from the 60's and the majority of my others are from the 80's.

I always felt bad for ironman because it was released at the height of the X-men Hype. I believe had marvel waited for the X-men craze to die down just a little ironman would have had a chance to be more popular than Batman

from what i have noticed Ironman is one of marvel's comics with an underlined theme that was directed toward kids to help them make decisions in life.

Tony Stark was given alot of obstacles throughout his life some of them being
alchaholism
heart problems
paralyzed
also he was a playboy who acted without thought of repercussions.

As the comic progresses he learns to overcome these obstacles to become a better person, a protector of all people. Ironman teaches kids that it's possible to turn our life around and overcome obstacles that seem impossible.

Other Marvel comics like this include
X-men (dealing with adversity)
Spiderman (with great power comes great responsability)
the Hulk (self control)
and i'm sure there's others i'm not thinking of

Bruce Wayne had to overcome not being a Ninja.
He had to overcome his parents dieing in front of him, and when they did, he didn't even cry.
Heck, he hardly wimpered when Robin died.
He was also paralyzed, and put in a coma by Bane. And do you know what happened? Gotham freaked the fudge out. Because he's the Batman, that's why.

What would happen if Tony Stark disappeared? Nothing, the Flash could do his job. Ironman doesn't have the love/hate relationship of an entire city. Because he's a dork.

What makes Tony Stark such a magnificent hero? He has friggin' Lazers, Rocket Boots, and a nearly Invulnerable Suit of Armor. A more true to life name for him would be JET-TANK-LAZERMAN. What a gimmick... is he supposed to be some type of superman knock-off? Wonderful color choice BTW... but I guess you don't need stealth when you're supposed to be invincible...

What does Batman have? Ninja moves and Yoga........ He doesn't need no friggin' wimp suite... even though he could buy one himself. Remember, he kicked Superman's ass. Superman....


In conclusion, Iron Man will never be more popular than Batman. And never stood a chance, because he's stupid.

And just for the record; the 'Knight Fall' story arc should totally be the basis for the next Batman movie. Bane is too good a villain not to feature sooner or later, and his treatment in 'Batman and Robin' (*shudder*) was retarded.

He's fucking hardcore, and he deserves a outing in a big-screen role. Word is motherfucking bond.

and his current problem, being a skrull whose tech is involved in the defence of the entire world and has gone over to the enemy. No sweat, just the small stuff.

i'd say good villains in the next movie include black mask or the mad hatter, because they both offer good continuations of the storyline developed in the reboot: a broken gotham run amidst with mobs and crime.. needing batman, but also blaming him for possibly creating this mess in the first place. penguin would be a good secondary villain/character, playing the more traditional role of an aristocratic criminal who owns a nightclub where batman goes for information sometimes.

bane is a good character, but introducing him in the next movie would disrupt the continuity of the reboot.. if he snaps batman's spinal cord, there's no azrael or nightwing to take his place if they decide to do a 4th movie. it would be a good arc for christopher nolan to dive deep into the roots of bruce wayne/batman while he's paralyzed, but i can't see that being made into a full-length movie.

One of my favourite things about going to France or Belgium used to be the graphic novel shops - they take it so much more seriously there than in the UK.

I love Trigan Empire, even though most of what I've got is in French.
Lucky Luke is a favourite of mine - his horse Jolly Jumper has one of the funniest lines in
all comicdom...

Luke leaps into the saddle and shouts "Yeah! We're goin' to California!"
JJ looks up laconically and says "Yeah, but I'm walking!"
