My Games Sorting (Bump next to play to the top)

Post by docidiot »

currently, in "my games," the games are sorted by the time that the current player has left to play. but, this really doesnt tell you how close you are to actually playing. why not automatically put games in which you are next to play on top. you can sort within these games and within the remaining games using the current method. obviously, this isnt perfect, but would give you a better idea of which game you will be playing next.

EDIT: by "next to play" i mean those games in which one player still has to act before its your turn.

I agree some form of alternative sorting would be helpful. I looked through all the greasemonkey stuff and could find nothing.

Just as an FYI, the first time I read through this, I was thinking "don't we already have that". I assume you are saying sort the games first by how many players before your turn, then by how much time is remaining within each group. This does have benefits and drawbacks, but I think it does have its merits.

well, i originally only meant for the first filter to be games in which you are next to play. but, you could certainly extend that idea to first sorting by how many players before you. i wouldnt object to that. :)

and now i see that "next to play" could mean "its your turn to play." i mean "next to play" to mean "there is only one player before your turn." i will edit the original post.

Just because it's the player's turn who is right in front of you doesn't necessarily mean that game will be your next one to play in. There are many games where the play goes faster, even if you had just taken your turn.

i completely agree with you. but, i do think that on average it will give you a better idea of what game is next.

See my suggested solution to the same problem which is subtly different.

Personally I prefer my solution. Feel free to resurrect it if you agree ;)

Sorting MY GAMES to bring up the games soonest to be your turn can best be done with the following sort scheme:

1. The first batch on the list will be all games where it is your turn to move. This batch is then sorted by time remaining.

The remainder of the games will all be ones that it is not your turn to move, and will be listed in sequence by batch as follows:

2. Freestyle Speed Games
3. Sequential Speed Games
4. Freestyle Casual Games
5. Sequential Casual Games

Within each of these batches the games will be sorted first by the number of players to move before it is your turn and then by the time remaining.

You could even use a different background color for each of these 5 batches to aid in quick visual identification of which batch you are looking at.

It would sure make better sense than what we have now.

No it wouldn't (for me anyway). For the third time, I think, in threads like this, I will reiterate a strength of the current system:

It allows me to fairly easily see when other turns have been taken in team games - I try to check all my team games after every players' turn, and these complicated sorting methods would stick those games at random through the list. At the moment all I need to do is look from the bottom up and see what has (24-X) or less hrs remaining, X being the time to the previous time I was online.

I certainly see the advantage of the present sort for checking on progress of your Team games.

I believe you can have that by adding one more batch for Team games as follows:

1. The first batch on the list will be all games where it is your turn to move. This batch is sorted by time remaining.

The remainder of the games will all be ones that it is not your turn to move, and will be listed in sequence by batch as follows:

Batches sorted by number of players to play before your turn, then by time remaining:
2. Freestyle Speed Games (Non-Team)
3. Sequential Speed Games (Non-Team)
4. Freestyle Casual Games (Non-Team)
5. Sequential Casual Games (Non-Team)
Batch sorted by time remaining:
6. All Team games
