I hardly ever go to the Map Forums, but I wondered into here now and thought of an idea. I don't make maps nor will I try in the near future, but if anyone wants the idea.... Wizard of CC?? I don't know lol

I was thinking of this idea as well, and remembered some of the maps that L. Frank Baum put in his books. I found them in Wikipedia, where it is claimed that the copyright has expired (at least in the US) based on the many years that have passed since LFB's death. I don't know if this would apply worldwide. There is also the question of copyright claimed by later publishers, but this might be avoided by minor revisions to the original works (which is the way, I believe, this later publishers establish their claims). For example, restoring LFB's original east/west swap (which his publisher "corrected") might suffice.

I had the same idea as well a few weeks ago but decided to wait to put it in the forum as I was new to the site and thought i'd wait till i was here fore a bit so I wasnt seen as just another overkeen newbie.
Yes the Wizard of Oz is in the public domain as far as copyright is concern (yes worldwide) so copyright is not an issue.. What would be an issue is that any map made would have to be "origonal" so made from scratch by the creater (even if i does use information from other works) as the only maps/images I have found so far are still copyrighted to the creaters...
Because of the depth of information, the fact that the land of oz was used in many subsiquent books after the wizard of oz, any map would be interesting to see how it incorporates the various features.
such as the various witches towers/castles,
the tinmans tower (from latter books),
the squirrel kings woods and the such
.. and yes I have done too much looking into this..
I could and would be happy put together the artwork etc for any map but I have no clue how to transfer this into any map format for CC.
Any ideas guys?
