Here are some of the rules that i have learned since starting that improve my chances of winning greatly. I think these rules are the few "golden rules"
And some people believe rank is determined only by the dice they roll, but that is very false. All in all CC might be based on chance, but becoming great at CC requires only that you do the little things right to "enhance" your "chances".
1. Don't lose the game on the first turn-you might start a game with horrible dice, but don't give up for the dice always even out (they really do) 2. Don't attack neutrals- only attack neutrals if you have to. What is the point of risking your valuable men's souls without killing any of the wreckless opponents armies?!?! 3. Build your armies up- instead of killing as much as you can with what you have play conservative. Plan for the bad dice so you never get bad dice. Try killing 1's while improving your position and building the total number of troops you have on the board. 4. Stay quiet- In multi-player games stay quiet, don't attack ruthlessly trying to get a bonus bringing attention to yourself. Instead let the others attack eachother while you build that massive army, then when the time is right, KILL KILL KILL.
CHEFS, CADETS, PRIVATES and beyond i hope these 4 golden rules help you in the long run. If any other rule should is worthy of being golden i would love to hear it.

What to do when playing a 1 on 1 Age of merchants, in the first turn your opponent conquer the pirate cove, and he started with 5 docks, you lose on puerto mudesto all your armies. You lose, no matter what kind of mastermind you are, a better '' golden rule'' would be not to play on maps where you can lose in the first round, or where you need just luck.
2. Don't attack neutrals- only attack neutrals if you have to. What is the point of risking your valuable men's souls without killing any of the wreckless opponents armies?!?!
What's the point of attacking something if you don't have to ? You should't attack your opponent if you don't have to also...
3. Build your armies up- instead of killing as much as you can with what you have play conservative. Plan for the bad dice so you never get bad dice. Try killing 1's while improving your position and building the total number of troops you have on the board.
If CC was that easy I would have been Colonel allready...

No, you don't attract attention when your building that massive army in the middle of Europe !? Where is the golden rule about eliminating and cash in to eliminate another player btw ?

You're on crack ! 3 vs 3 = 2.1 leftover
Ahh I completely forgot about that. Thank you for reminding me... wanna go one on one

You are on crack! I would've been stupid enough to about 3 hours ago.
There are times where you want to cash in or eliminate a player for cards, but there are also times where you don't. But most of the time you do want to eliminate a player for their cards, therefore it is now a GOLDEN RULE It might be a little too complex for some though

Well then what do you think the golden rules of CC should be. The things i wrote i believe are the most basic things to help improve a player. Of course there are a billion different tactics and strategies but those are too complex for the weaker players. The rules I wrote are for the sole purpose of helping the weaker players get better to defend against the evil JOHNNYROCKETS24s of CC (BTW Johnny Rocket's hamburgers are awesome)
whitestazn88 wrote:dude.. but those rules arent always applicable to every game...
i thought golden rules were always useful, like:
do unto others as you would have others do unto you (?) or two wrongs don't make a right
i know, but i think a more golden rule would be like
don't press auto attack unless you have a more than 15 man adavantage.
because that is pretty much always true. players who know more about the game know that you shouldn't waste your armies with auto attack and learn when to stop
Even though i hate the dice very much, it is true that "the dice even out" maybe not in a single game but they do even out. And even if they don't even out a player should be able to win without good dice. I always compensate for the chance of getting bad dice, i usually only make attacks i know i will be successfull at.
In any attack, be prepared to lose 4 or 5 times as many armies as you are planning on losing.
Seriously though, what would a hard and fast rule be; one which would apply to every map, game type, fortification type, fog of war, number of players, card type?
Taking just the classic map as an example, is there any rule which would apply equally to 2-player and no cards versus 8-player escalating?
It seems like the methods of playing CC could change drastically given the possible varying paramaters from one game to the next.
To give another example, it looks to me like 8-player escalating will most often go to the player who times the turn-in of the cards perfectly. In contrast 8-player with no cards requires a lot of patience.
Guys and Girls, I had been playing RISK and other board games for a few years now, it seems when some people sit in on a game that when they see others about to cash in 3-5 cards they toss the golden rule book out the window and forget that the lower players could help them by not attacking them.
Yet yesss they put the players on their foes list and proceed to destroy them at any cost, if 6-8 players are playing the game, about 4 players will gang up on an adjacent player and take him or her out and make sure they loose their territories so they never can get bigger. It is not debated upon and most of these players that are the attackers know one another, so there is very little goldenrules used during these games of Terminator assassins game play.
You get in the way of 4 players that have been given rankings and won a few games, they think they can steamroll over the weaker forces players; fair play is supposed to be the golden rule but it rarely is when winning is the only objective when the other players figure you and anyone like you is the enemy to make sure you do not win nor can cash in your cards on the first build.

You ahvent got a clue...stick around and see how much CC is different to risk!
How about the "don't attack for a card in flat rate (unless it's 1v1) if you have to kill like 5 or more armies." I'm sick of people running over 5 armies or so because they want a card, and it's their only option, yet they fail to realize it most likely won't pay off. Even with a mixed set, the individual card is only worth around 3.33 armies... why are you wasting someone else's 5 and potentially your own armies?
Same with killing people. I've seen people kill like 30+ armies to kill someone with 4 cards or something... what's the point unless it's a 1v1v1 and you can take the board afterwards...

Fabled I totally agree, the other guy that just posted to me has fewer medals than you do. Hummm it seems also the point that anyone whom is going to cash in a 5 set on the first build or even 3 set, has the potential to upset the other players's agendas and make them work harder to take up the territories they set their sights on. They obviously don't care as to working as teams as the game boards suggest they do with their layouts.....yes slaughter seems to be fun to them.
I am sorry Fabled you have to get use to it, if it toughens you up....so be it, it has me. May be these games put the killer instinct into weaker players, but I have a word of warning for the players that think they are tough nuts; the weaker players grow up and become YOU, they even surpass YOU, if you want a enemy as foe the harder you slaughter a WEAKER PLAYER the more you make them determined to slaughter YOU.

Ahhh humley, running off again with abit of flaming are you? I got a clue and I am very happy you posted, I think we just locked horns in a game or two and you eliminated me didn't you.....damn right I will stick around, I did not rate you but in what ever game we play you may not be so lucky next time.
Your not so smart as you think you are and having secret agenda alliances only work for a few games but your friends that think your a foe to them actually stab you in the back. If you post stupidly, which you obviously don't to your friends, you could let something slip. Your not a talker on the game chat but making private deals with people you consider loyal just may turn up to be nasty for you because like all people with killer instincts to win they turn on you.
