It is a bit of both. Medals are nice and so is rank. I have been branching out as of late and trying some team games. I find them to be rather enjoyable. They are totally different than singles games, but in a good way. After learning how to play then I will now be playing a mix of games. More than just my usual singles games.

It means that you're no better than anyone else at other gametypes, and are only a Brigadier at specific gametypes.
If you're trying to say that various gametypes make a good player, you just showed that you AREN'T a good player (although the same indeed), because you lost your "good" rank and became a sergeant.
who can be good at doodle assassin
what I'm saying is that anyone can get high ranked playing 1v1 or team games, but they can't get medals that way - only noob farmer with a lot of medals is Herpes
Kemmler wrote:Personally I think that medals show experience across all game types... many players with many medals but low rank could pwn u at any setting like Paradice... whereas rank is reserved for the highly disciplined and depends on what game type you like. For instance, klobber has high rank but no medals and he sucks
I got all the medals and a high score

yea but you started with like what? 22 medals, prolly in about 7200-7400 games so you took time to obtain another 5 medals or so in 500 games...so your point is kind pointless

Erm..not at all.
Because I started with less than 100 defeats for quads...i think it was around 70 or 80. So that's at least like 60-70 games to play just for that medal, maybe more. Terminator I had just over 100, so to get to 400 would take forever, and a lot of games. So your point is kinda pointless...
Blitzaholic wrote:why not both, high score and lots of medals, i think is better than just one of them high
I agree Blitz- it shows diversity in game play and combined with rank it shows success IF they are earned in a natural progression. I don't see the point in going after them all at once. Drop severely in rank- then go back to your original game type.
For an example players like yourself that have excelled in almost every game type. Your medal count is a direct result of your game selection- not the other way around. It shows more value- some would argue the same about how rank is acquired.
keeping your rank and earning different medals.
that is the skills. I have only lost 1000 points going for 1 vs 1 cross map stuff and an assassin tourney and playing the lottery games as well
Anyone can play thousands of games and eventually get all the medals. well, most people.
Medals are worthless. I'm amazed that so many people voted for them, probably the 10 or 20 people who ran out and got medals when they first came out. When I came back to the site a month ago I won my first game and got 4 or 5 medals. I don't know what they were for, kind of like the ones I got in the navy. I think I have 6 or 7, most never formally presented too me, I'd have to go into my service record to find out what they are, and then go buy them at the nex if I wanted to wear them, (I'm out now, have been for some time). Point is, since I don't even know what I got them for, I find it hard to see how they have any value. So I feel the same about CC medals, but I guess if you've played 10,000 games and still can't make it to the top of the scoreboard, then medals give you something else to do.

Medals only truly indicate one thing - persistence. Rank does indicate disipline, but can be achieved thru various means, neither indicate a truly good player. I think win % is likely the best indicator of a dangerous player.
rank and medals are both function of number of games played. so yea, both are sort of bs -- but medals more so, than rank. You hit a upper limit in terms of limit since the fact that high ranked players lose more than they gain somewhat catches on to them -- whereas, for medals there is no such limitations. Basically as number of games played reaches a very high number, medal count maxes out, but that doesnt happen for rank.
If you truly want to figure out players who are great all-rounders, the only way to do it would be to run map rank a couple of times, based on maps/settings. But that wouldnt still you who the good players are, since many good players havent played enough games to cover all maps and setting with some statistical significance.

Just poking a little. I'm sure, someday, I'll have played 10,000 games, and I know I will never be conqueror.
Kemmler wrote:I disagree still and wonder why the poll has changed.... ALL high ranked players just play one game type, team games or noob farming.
Not all...but a lot do. And I kinda agree. I mean ya you have to be good at the type that you play all the time..but if you're as good as your points say you are, you should be able to get points practically any way.

We've already hit this topic about a million times- there isn't enough high ranks for this to happen.
