i was trying to keep the insults to your sport to a minimum, but then found joining in with the others was just too delicious to resist. i personally have no real issue with the sports you play, i was just commenting on your corruption of our great and glorious language, such as words like 'football'.Neoteny wrote:And yet it seems your very manhood is based on insulting a sport that you have never participated in. Is this some sort of deranged right of passage? Who is manlier? One who plays a sport, or one who has to resort to childish banter in order to feel better about himself?
Same to you. But, you did not answer, have you ever even actually played it, or are you just jumping in and repeating what you have heard from others?Iliad wrote:Jipsy king was saying that rugby league was more manly. And can you really argue that american football is more manlier than rugby league?
Oh and nice false dilemma logical fallacy
HapSmo19 wrote:I dont see the point in even comparing the two. If not for sharing the name, this arguement wouldn't even be taking place. American(real) football is more chess-match and less of a chaotic game of hands-on soccer.
About fifteen years ago, some sports channel that doesn't exist anymore(go figure) aired all the games of whatever it is you call that and I have to admit, it was fun to watch for about five minutes.

did you only watch 5 minutes and then thought to yourself "where the f*ck are the adverts, why haven't they stopped playing yet".
anyway i would like some input on how the Redskins are shaping up this year please. have they got any chance?

In regards to the 'childish banter' bit of the above sentiments, I would politely suggest that you started it by naming the thread as you did. If you had called it American Football, you wouldn't have all the football fans in here sidetraking your thread.Neoteny wrote:And yet it seems your very manhood is based on insulting a sport that you have never participated in. Though, it would seem rather redundant to call it "American Football" when you live here, so we just use football. Granted when people from outside the US (or maybe continent, whichever it may be) may get confused by the term, but that is just how we call it.Gypsys Kiss wrote:In regards to the 'childish banter' bit of the above sentiments, I would politely suggest that you started it by naming the thread as you did. We can argue semantics all day about who has the right to use the word 'football' but in the end neither of us would admit defeat. I dont see why it is pretentious for us to use the word football. I dont use the word 'soccer' and I notice you dont use the term 'gridiron'. Why not?
No, I have never played gridiron but I do watch it occaisionally, but given a choice I will watch a game of football first. Oh and I am a Raiders fan.
'nuff said.

You must be high, because it seems you missed the point. The pretentiousness of the original thread is not in the "football," but in the "(real)." I was responding to that. I was well aware of what I wrought, but don't pretend that it's my fault that you guys come in here with your "youse a sissy-pants" bitching. My antagonism was no worse than the creator of the other thread.Gypsys Kiss wrote:Yes, it probably would be redundant. But naming the thread as he did, Neoteny was deliberatly trying to provoke a backlash of the 'me man, you pansy' type. And then has the audacity to call us pretentious and childish.

I was referring to the arguments of one sport over the other in general (which is ridiculous on all counts). Keep your fallacies to yourself.Iliad wrote:Jipsy king was saying that rugby league was more manly. And can you really argue that american football is more manlier than rugby league?
