Great actually. The papers aren't really that bad yet, the only one I have a problem with is my Intro to Philosophy paper which I have to discuss the Ontological Argument.

So it's been a while, how's life treating you?

Ah, yes the ology of Onts.
Onts are of course a famous but seldom-sighted plant/mammal hybrid beast of North America. Their name is part of the root of the names Toronto and Ontario. Tolkien drew on the legends for his tree-like creatures the Ents, changing the name slightly as he did with many things. The original legend of course has them being less tree-like, and smaller and of limited intelligence, like their US cousins the Bush family.

Actually, The Ontological Argument was written way back when in Europe. I can't remember the exact time frame but I want to say the 12th century. It basically says to assume that God exists only in concept and that God is the greatest conceivable being, yet if God was to exist in reality he'd be even greater, but nothing can be greater than God so God must exist in reality.

I just found the argument stupid and flawed and really am not looking forward to writing about it.

Actually, I think (if my memory serves me) that this is only one example of ontology: Whatever a philosopher holds to be unprovable because it is obvious, is a given, a thing that can be taken as already proven. I'm probably not phrsasing that very well.
But just about anything that has been held to be "ontological" by one philospopher has been questioned by others.

The "ontological argument" says that the existence of god doesn't need proof. I think it says something like "god must exist because we can imagine him, he must be the most awesome thing ever, if we could imagaine something more awesome that'd be god, then." It fails because the fact that I can imagine something doesn't require it to exist, or my sex life would have been a lot more interesting, and all fiction would be true, and there must be a perfect horse because I can imagine that too...

I think this leads to the "je pense puis je suis" of Descartes.

But don't put Descartes before the horse.

Yes that's my problem with the argument and why I really am not looking forward to writing it.

In other news, I finished a rough draft of my first paper and gave it to my english teacher to look at. He seemed to like it and only made a few suggestions.

I took philosophy last year and LOVED IT YEAH. However youguys are missing how it works. this is a clip from some page on the internte that expains how you go from imagnaition to reality.
God is that entity than which nothing can be greater.
The concept of God exists in human understanding.
God exists in one's mind but not in reality.
The concept of God's existence is understood in one's mind.
If God existed in reality, it would be a greater thing than God's existence in the mind.
The final step to God's existence is that God in reality must exist.
to me this does not prove that God exsits however.
But then agian i do think that no one can prove God exests because if there was a way to prove that God exsits than God would be pointless and would not Esists. Thats just my opion if you want me to write more i can about that but hey. what can you do. BUT I LOVE PHYLOSOPHY

That's basically just a longer version of what I said. In my opinion, there is a major hole in this argument that fills up the space in this argument from the first word to the last period.

I prefer St. Thomas's argument for God's existance really. I can't explain it as well but it made more sense to me. A lot more sense.

I have a paper in Spanish due in October. I don't feel like doing it. Because it doesn't have anything to do with spanish.

School year starts. I am assigned 2 very similar projects for 2 VERY different classes. It is finding adds and figuring out what type of appeal the add is using. One is for English, which I can understand. The other though, was for my math class. I still haven't figured out why and that was about a month ago. #-o

As far as philosophy goes, I am a sincere believer in Exixtensialist Phenomenology. Which may account for leaning towards Anarchy politically.

I don't think we are there yet. Though I do not like the idea of anarchy.

For a good model of an anarchist, don't looke to looters in a riot - look to Ghandi.
An anarchist does not break rules for the sake of it (that's nihilism) - he says, "I don't care what your rules say. This is the right thing to do."

However the masses are stupid dumb and ignorent. They will always think of themselves so looters rioting works for me. Yes there will be some Ghandi's however people that dont take that driction will lead to riots and they will be more than the Ghandi's

This isn't the place to argue the merits of anarchy: suffice it to say that whatever system you think you have, each individual makes their own decisions and either obeys the rules or not - anarchy is a description of the real world.

It is a soldier's finger that squeezes a trigger, not a general's.

It is a driver that stops at a red light, not the electrician.

What if the electrician is the driver?
