BSG (RDM) map

Post by Fractal »

How about a Battlestar Galactica (the new series) map?

It can be the Human fleet with Galactica, Pegasus, Colonial One, Majahual, Olympic Carrier, and a fleet of Cylon Basestars and the places they've been to; Kobol, Caprica, Ragnar, The Algae Planet. And to get between ships you use Vipers and Raiders, and Raptors to jump between the fleet and planets!

Plus you can use the Galactica, Pegasus, and the Basestars to bombard each other!

Try thinking along the lines of the 12 colonies, after all, they are just Zodiac sign names, then throw in any type of android you want.

Just because its copyright doesn't mean you can't use it for a base idea, i did. But i guess that would almost make it just another space map.

You just gave me another idea - what about an Empire-Foundation map? Trantor, Terminus, Ancreon...?

Not so familiar with that, but basically what it comes down to are the copyright issues.
If you can either
a) get permission from the Isaac Asimov Estate
b) not infringe on the copyright
then you can do what you want.

Now the middle earth map has been created so I would assume (hopefully with out making an ass of myself) a precedent is set in its ok to make a world out of somewhere in a book as long as you don't copy an already copyrighted piece of work to make it?

So if you made the map up, and all the graphics up yourself then it should be ok...maybe.?? :?:

Just checked on Wiki, so much other stuff has been based on Asimov its not funny. check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Founda ... ral_impact

do it.

So, explain to me how you do and don't infringe on copyright?

Copyright does not prohibit all copying or replication. In the United States, the fair use doctrine, codified by the Copyright Act of 1976 as 17 U.S.C. § 107, permits some copying and distribution without permission of the copyright holder or payment to same. The statute does not clearly define fair use, but instead gives four non-exclusive factors to consider in a fair use analysis. Those factors are:

1. the purpose and character of the use;
2. the nature of the copyrighted work;
3. the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
4. the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
