hehe me and he are having a little tiff right now... though he doesn't know it yet.clapper011 wrote:Im glad you don't mean me, as I said before I am only human and yes , can make errors. I just ask that if you feel I have made an error to respect me in that you pm me instead of criticize me! not asking to be begged too, just give me your ideas if you disagree, that's all. As a few have, even Owen does it, jim, and a few others.
Well said. Obviously twildo was not selected as "community manager" because of any talent in dealing with people, or due to any leadership abilities whatsoever. I suspect that he is either related to Lack, or a childhood friend who Lack rescued from McDonalds or Kentucky Fried Chicken (or some Canadian equivalent).heavycola wrote:unfortunately, the people with responsibility are often not the ones who are worthy of it or have any real idea what they are doing.
Well... with the greatest of respect here, I'm not sure that's entirely fair.clapper011 wrote:I just ask that if you feel I have made an error to respect me in that you pm me instead of criticize me!

Well said. Unfortunately, most mods view that post with a tl;dr, and possibly a lock for mentioning twill.Dancing Mustard wrote:Well... with the greatest of respect here, I'm not sure that's entirely fair.clapper011 wrote:I just ask that if you feel I have made an error to respect me in that you pm me instead of criticize me!
1. It's not as if 'PM Communications = non-criticising' and 'non-PM communications = criticising'. In other words, people using PMs to object to mod-action isn't going to magically going to end criticism; and I think you're making a bit of a false dichotomy when you say "pm me instead of criticize me", they're just not mutually exclusive.
2. The problem that we have as a community with the "PM me, don't do it in a thread" argument, is that we don't like making our objects more easily ignorable. The benefit to us of doing our objecting in a public thread is that our lone voices are joined by similarly thinking people, which gives our opinions greater legitimacy, and the existence of a physical thread makes the complaint harder for a mod to ignore and kick under the carpet (and if you do, then everyone sees you do it).
So basically, we don't want to go to PMs every time we have a problem, because it strips us of what little power to complain that we have left. I mean, can you really blame us? CC's rules are all based on mod discretion, there's been a number of inconsistencies of application in the past, and we don't get any say in picking who our overlords are. Furthermore, official business here all happens behind closed doors, and we're seldom given any insights into the process.
In other words, we complain in public threads because that tends to be the best option in a forum with a climate like this one. And while you might not like it (and as a mod I wouldn't), it's a culture which both mods and regular users have created together. Until that climate changes, then objections are probably going to continue being made in threads.
Unfortunately, as Twill said earlier, this place is becoming a really negative and 'toxic' place... and this issue is just the tip of a whole iceberg of crappy behaviour from both sides of the mod/user fence.
I'll admit it then: our complaint threads are frequently a bit harsh. A great number of dissenters (myself included) get quite aggressive and fairly abusive without needing much provocation. That's not good behaviour on our part, and it's something we ought to change. I for one apologise for the tone I took in this incident, and I hope to correct it in the future.
On the other hand, mod-behaviour in these incdients is also something that needs to change. The dissenting community's angry tone has come about because we're sick of seeing a great deal of mod-arrogance around here. Complaints are often just waved away with "It's my deciscion, I'm a mod and I've done it now", threads are often locked to save mod-effort, and when errors are made (because you're only human, and they do happen) it takes a huge amount of spilt-ink to get you to reconsider your actions. Add to that the mod-habit of refusing to apologise for mistakes, and you can see why we might feel a tiny bit aggrieved.
Basically, this community has become a bit shit. But if it's to be repaired, then both mods and users need to make a concerted effort to mind their manners. Once again the old adage rings true that one needs to give respect before one receives respect... and as it stands, neither mods nor users at large give each other enough.
I did say most after all, there are exceptions. You've done a fine job as far as I can tell. I just get a bit upset when a mod who almost wholly frequents the general discussion board pops in over here and tells us what is and isn't a contribution to the community. Protecting us from ourselves is not a mod's job.clapper011 wrote:not from me, I actually agree with most of what DM is saying.
I think you have done a solid job as forum mod and hope to see you move up the ladder.clapper011 wrote:Im glad you don't mean me, as I said before I am only human and yes , can make errors. anyway I am off, need to go pump some iron..LOL
Now you have a problem with Nightstrike. Is any mod good enough for you bk? I've found Nightstrike to be pleasant and professional. I don't understand what decisions of his you find so objectionable. Maybe you should apply for a mod position and we can see how the expert does it.b.k. barunt wrote:I agree. This "nightstrike" is most definitely a twatish type. Sounds like he's about 16, and i'll betcha he's related to Lack or twildo - i smell nepotism. I personally resent the site owners foisting their brats on us like that.

[self-righteous brother]on topic, off topic, who cares? Why is there this insistence - applied in a random and scattershot fashion, admittedly - that each thread MUST NOT DEVIATE FROM ITS ORIGINAL SUBJECT MATTER. That is particualrly irksome. In real life, everyone would stop talkign altogther and conversations would become EXTREMELY EFFING BORING VERY QUICKLY[/self-righteous brother]jbrettlip wrote: Disclaimer: This has nothing to do with my latest unofficial warning from him for an offtopic post that he won't admit was funny.

I agree, I don't understand that... Thank goodness Clapper doesn't treat us this way over here in The (not yet) Banned.heavycola wrote:[self-righteous brother]on topic, off topic, who cares?
