IF a conversation changes mid stream, why make a new thread if everyone is still contributing. There's a thread right now that started on the US financial crisis, and is now talking about the 2 party system. That will probably be locked down, for no real reason.
All of that is immensely sensible, and I agree entirely.

aye! .. that was the real death of Flamewars for me .. when they took out our ability to debate shit in a real, feisty way, and with little respect of topic or form. Some excellent and flowing discourse!

Now the choice is endless cack-talk about other players or the joy of dice (FW)... or come here and get the thread locked.

Perhaps a new forum called Flame Discussions is in order.... Perhaps it is easiest to just set-up a user group but that always dies after the initial honeymoon sex.

This place will never be toxic and negative.

The toxic and negative people will be, and even positive ones will be at times, but in the end, the positive players outnumber the negative ones on a ten to one ratio, and I think im being generous.

Never question this, or get discouraged, because the CC community has proved it time and time again.

Usually the average, positive player doesnt have a reason to post, so their voices are not heard, but if push came to shove, they'd show up in droves, and any question of the state of CC would be silenced. Anyone who's been here for a while has seen this happen.

Ive always like the openness of CC, and I think its beyond what youll find at most sites, but Ive known since I got here, that It wouldnt be possible to keep it as a trash mouth haven for people spewing out the biggest insults just for fun, as no real place in public is.

I actually like flame wars. There is a certain beauty in some of the genuine creativity that can be found in there at times, and personally would hate to see it go. However, if I was responsible for providing a large community of real people with a good time, and freedom from being called some pretty offensive names, and being harassed continuously, I believe Id have no choice but to shut it down. It might not be fair for the few that cant have fun playing the game, but its sure as hell more unfair that right now, any player in there, can be singled out, and just trashed. Most have no issues with this, but the ones that do, don't deserve it, which is when it becomes wrong. Typically when this happens though, you see a good number of people come to the aid of the innocent, and thats when you see the true nature of CC.

Most of the self-proclaimed flame wars kings and queens simply do not realize this, as they focus on trading slurs with one of their fellow disgruntled players.

My point is, making sure people aren't being overly harassed, annoyed, or possibly even abused, isnt just some whim the management has come up with. Technically its their responsibility, and probably takes precedence over actual profit making. Ill be right there doing what I can to make sure the place doesn't become too stringent, or stagnant, because I think that would be a damn shame. But anyone not seeing the big picture here, is probably just too young too care, too ambivalent to care, or really just too mean spirited to stay in a place that they cant continually go off on another person. If some of these players move on because of a little regulation, thats life. But in the end, I expect there are far more players that would enjoy a friendly(ish) environment to play some games, and have some true debates and banters, that while heated, dont quite have to drop to the absolute bottom of language to be fun.

So, by all means post disagreement with policies, and let people know your preferences and what makes you have fun. But personally attacking people that are doing their job, and using their time to try to make CC a better place, just isnt going to have any effect.

In any case, ignore the toxic and negative claims about these forums overall. Focus on that if you'd like, but dont fool yourself into thinking thats how the majority of players feel about it.

CC's community is alive and well, and will be for a very long time. :D

Oh wait, that's not unusual in the slightest. Carry on.

I am not going to vote one way or another on this one. I WILL say that it must be difficult to keep track of all the threads and that sometimes they have to make decisions based on only part of what is there.

I myself was mildly reprimanded for making a "racist" remark... I made a remark that if taken completely out of context could have been seen that way. Now I am more careful to quote when responding (or at least include a full context for any potentially questionable statement) and also to indicate right away if I make a sarcastic remark.

The one think I wish they WOULD crack down on a bit more is quoting someone else incorrectly ... Not plain errors (easy enough to accidently delete the wrong name and so forth), but using the quotes and changing words so it says something completely different quite intentionally.

He does not fear you. He is Godzilla, you are Japan.

Seriously, it's really just best if you let it go this time. I mean, I think we all want the same thing here.
