I use clickables. I admit they provide an unfair advantage. However I would only take them off if I knew everyone else had them off. The thing is, I really like not having to use the scroll scripts and such as it allows me to not use the damn scroll down buttons. I use CM even in seq games. The only suggestion I could provide would be...
Take out the option of using the ALT key to automatically advance territories (would slow things down). Take out the option of using AutoAttack. Force players using clickable maps to actually scroll down to the "Auto" button each time they want to auto. It would also help.
Those are my suggestions. You could also remove the "b" button from start turn, that's a huge advantage.
Thezzaruz wrote:It's unfair because not everyone uses it? Hmm not sure about that logic. After all, all parts needed (FF, GM and the script) are free for anyone to download/use.
I just don't like the idea of downloading scripts from a 3rd-party site.
They aren't trult tested or supported in anyway... and who knows if you're downloading a trojan horse or some other crap. If it's built into the site I will use it... if not... NBD.
Until today i never even knew about clickable maps. Have just played a 8 man freestyle classic where i was the only player not using clickable maps judging from the conversation of the other players. At the begining i was holding my own but once a few players had got eliminated i got wiped out before i could click to begin my turn. They do give an unfair advantage and i personally think that players should be able to see if other players are using clickable maps and decide whether to play or not.

well, if i do that, then i'll have to go in other threads and complain about lag in all my games... you know, kind of like you do... i'll just keep my speedy little computer, CM and BooB free, and that will mean one less thread about how "the site" is slow.-0

So I was learning how to play Arms Race and I realised I'd be fucked without CM. When I turned it off I had no idea about the territory names. Took me about 5 times longer to find the bastards.

yes, but its much simpler and more time efficient to use CM.

again, some of us enjoy using our minds on a casual gaming site. we aren't looking to become professional conquer clubbers... we can count, enjoy studying maps, and even enjoy selecting territories to attack in the pull down menu..-0

agreed, however the topic of this thread is about how CM is unfair...which its not, dont like it, dont play freestyle, plain and simple. its available to everyone.

again, i prefer to count myself, attack myself, and play the game without any aids... clickable maps isn't unfair, it is just for people with weak minds. and furthermore, clickable maps is not only used in freestyle, it is used in all types of games on the site. soooo, you are only applying it to yourself in a specific situation, not overall.-0
p.s.-i do understand that in order to even have a remote chance at freestyle, you must use clickable maps!!!

i would not call it weak, just lazy. after like 12 beers i dont wanna be counting to see if you have 14 or 15 territ. i wanna just know, ok i gotta hit you twice.

I find clickable maps makes the game more enjoyable. Personally it drove me nuts on some maps to use the scroll down things, especially on maps I wasn't familiar with. It'd take me forever to decide and act in speed games sometimes. And I tried Conquer Man before I knew about clickable maps. That nearly drove me insane looking through the scroll down list.
As for the complaint about clickable maps giving people a speed advantage...That's going to happen whether or not clickable maps exists. You're still going to have people playing from outdated computers with crappy connections unknowingly finding themselves in games versus nerds on supercomputers.
Oh and even with clickable maps I still generally avoid freestyle unless I'm really in the mood for that...
So owen...are you saying my mind is weak MR? HMMMMMM?
[lquote="Timminz"]Just one of the many reasons I avoid freestyle.[/quote]
It's a shame that the odds of playing a 'straight' freestyle speed game are slim & none. You see I'm not so lazy that I can't be bothered to look at my opponents territories and figure things out for myself without some sort of 'mental labor saving script'. I even thought it was pretty slack when the card count was added next to each player's name ffs, but part of the nerve racking fun of freestyle/speed was scrambling to execute a turn with the shit hitting the fan all over the map... without the CM auto-pilot assistance.
Of course some players can't even be bothered to communicate during play with the game chat, so clickable maps is likely an indispensible feature to all those who can never seem to join and juggle enough active games or bank points fast enough to counter any losses.

I don't know what functions CM offers, but the main one (to click the country you want to attack) is SOOOO natural that just can't be called unfair...
I don't play freestyle. I don't play speed. Especially, I don't play freestyle speed. I really have no need for quick play.
But I'd really like to have clickable maps... This feature significantly limits a possibility of errors (attacking wrong country, attacking from wrong country, fortifying from or to wrong country...). Are there a player who likes Feudal Wars and never makes such a mistake? (In my first FW game, I erred at least 5 times, probably more...)
I don't want CM as an external script, though. I wish clickable maps as a basic feature of CC system...
(This post is more a cry for lack to do something than a real on topic contribution, but I just couldn't resist...)

ERRORS ARE PART OF THE GAME and are perfectly normal and absolutely natural. You're human and making mistakes is a part of playing because you aren't a machine. Gaming requires concentration, focus, aquired skills and you don't need the crutch of script/program to do everything for you ffs. Why not just get mom to take your turns after she cooks you dinner, does your laundry and finishes doing your homework.
around the table you wouldnt make mistakes like mis-attacking and the like clickable is not an advantage like ive said before. the parts to it are all free and publicly posted. if you dont get CM you are putting yourself at a disadvantage and even then really only in speed freestyle or real time casual freestyle. the majority of the games are not affected whether one player has CM or not

As if - when playing feudal your argument is just a joke. When every area is just a number and the borders are distinct, there are many times where you have the right plan but click the wrong area. If you think that should be "part of the game" that's utter bullshit. That would never happen in an actual game on a board as you could point to where you're attacking. Requiring concentration is different than going upon tedious tasks. Performing tedious actions continuously such as that shouldn't be rewarded... simply because they are tedious and shouldn't be what the gameplay promotes.

Ya if you don't understand that, think of it as - a mistake on the internet game is like a typo...you wouldn't mix up letters/write the completely wrong letter when writing.
