FYI: upcoming foundry revamp of Classic!

Post by Ditocoaf »

Twill has informed us that this current Classic Map is only temporary, and the foundry will soon begin a revamp. They had to make this temporary map because there wasn't time to make a real map, and you wouldn't want the real replacement to be rushed, would you? So hang tight, and keep your eyes out on the foundry!

Could we get a quick second temporary replacement? No offence to whoever made it, but this one is quite awful...

This one should probably do for now. It would be silly to reach the final, awesome map in increments... and a waste of the foundry's time. It's functional, and that's all we need at the moment.

Well, what if you were to do one of those contests? The map that wins the contest (and gets to move onto final forge and have more discussion and nitpicking done with it) would get stuck immediately into live play. I mean, seriously... The current map is just awful!

Making a map is a long and involved process... and it works best with a lot of public input. If they had tried to make a different classic map a long time ago, "just in case," not only would it be a waste of foundry time, but people would be really upset. They'd assume that the new map was going to replace the old classic for no reason. And the mapmaker would feel like he was wasting his time, putting all that effort into a map "just in case."

:) Just keep our eyes on the Foundry in the coming days, and all will be revealed! (Hopefully. ;))

Guys, there are 100 ways to parody the Classic map. Throw some non- geopolitical conquest iconic stuff on there, make it black and white, or better yet black light borders, black continents with satanic symbols and stuff like that. Then you can keep the geography pretty much the same (just change the names to be in keeping with the parody). Call it something like "Dark World 1.1". ... and then you can be damn sure that Hasbro, the wholesome family game company, is not going to make as case that your game is "confusingly similar" to their game...

And for god sake, don't put it on the front page of the site, or anywhere that makes it look like you are selling people on this site because you are peddling online classic RISK.

yes there are some very nervous and trigger-happy mods out tonight.. "there will be no discussion except sanctioned decision and in the place allotted for said discussion .." It adds that excellent edge of being imposed upon when we are already being lied to and imposed upon .. not really helping guys, let us move forward together and with understanding!

anyway i am glad that the inevitable revamp is being considered so quickly (hehe.)

Go and have a look at RJ's Brazil revamp and you will see that this will in the end be a very positive thing indeed.

To the dice we will become accustomed and the quirky terminology will become second nature.

(now where is this post going i wonder?)

i look forward to seeing it all unfold. and we must remember, hasbro does not "own" the geography of the world. if they did, world 2.1 would be gone, too... CC will bounce back
from this!! hell, maybe CC will even grow a set and put the dice back up, since there is
NO WAY hasbro owns the dice or the concept of dice.-0

I hope Hasbro doesn't own BlackJesus, otherwise you are going to be in for a rude awakening!

it was in response to people saying one should have been made a while ago... I think some posts were moved.

It's name has been changed to "Centerscape" for now, and it has the same temporary graphics Classic does. It will also be revamped by the foundry, and for all I know they might even change the name to something else.

Ironically this appears to have caused that to die.

Why not keep the old map in place until the new one was ready. This map is terrible, now.

This seems to have been almost like an emergency change. Even Twill doesn't know everything; this just happened all of a sudden. So I think they couldn't have left the old classic map up any longer.
