Middle Earth was my favourite map... I thought they dealt with the copyright issues when they first created it?

Ironically this appears to have caused that to die.

yes, very sadly RJ has removed all his wonderful maps from the foundry in protest. that is truly regrettable!

Any chance you can make S3 Ven and S4 Brazil ? Shift it to the left... it's a bit off balance.

It's not like Tolkien invented the term "Middle Earth". It's used in all kinds of mythology and such, including Shakespeare.

LOL... I guess that makes me an elf?

About the competition idea mentioned above, it would probably bring in the most interest and definitely result in a better map, but it would also slow the process by a few weeks as we give folks time to submit an entry and then go through a round or two of voting. We're pretty picky in the Foundry, so I don't want folks to think that this will happen overnight.

Dear Oaktown,
I'm sure Andy and Twill would promote you to Santa if you could get a new classic up and running in a few days!
Thank you, I've been a good boy,

A revamp will take weeks or months. Can we please have some leadership here to come in, get a decent replacement map done in the next 3 days and then allow time for a proper revamp.

Lacks leadership of this business has always sucked, and its incredibly evident now.

Seriously though, it's no time for contests or nitpicking. Hire a cartographer to do a map that conforms to the legal restraints and get it done soon. There are literally hundreds of dollars that go up for renewal every day, it's really no time to pussy foot around with the quagmire foundry.

Yes I said hire, as in pay someone. This is a business.

What is taking so long now? Why do we not have any real information yet? I mean sure the foundry is picky, but when has it ever been secretive?
I agree with mibi you guys need to get this done quickly... and let people know what is going on. This is no time to pretend like this isn't the workhorse map.

Things are bad now. And that sucks because I paid for this. Sure Lack is great... but his site is starting to show some wear. I didn't join for this.

Keep in mind it's been less than half a day since a major problem required a last-minute quick fix. I hardly would expect them to have everything sorted out enough to make a public statement.

Also, the foundry likely hasn't started. Andy, oaktown, and them can't set up a competition (slow) or request a mapmaker (quicker, but less public input) until they have a definitive list of what is and isn't okay. Which can't happen until the upper management knows for sure.

I guess basically all I can say is, don't expect everything to be settled by tomorrow afternoon. A lot of extra time seems to pass on the internet, when in RL things take significantly longer.

All I'm saying is that there should be more concern than there is. I realize that this just happened, but we already have a solid idea of what it should look like. Anyone could be winging a re-vamp right now. Throw money at the problem or whatever.

Despite my usual urge to jump straight to criticism, I'd say that we need to give lack a little more time to get this worked out. The site is a good one, though there are many flaws. I foresee this being on of the ones that could be handled well. I'm curious to see what can be worked out to sort this out. I imagine it'll be difficult to fix an issue of this magnitude.

I'd also like to say that a single map is not why I keep playing the game on this site. The classic map has its charms, sure, but to get so worked up over one of many maps seems a bit ridiculous to me. I don't understand everyone's obsession with the classic map. We have some brilliant gameplay additions, and plenty of other maps with similar gameplay. The actual game aspect of the site is not something that I have had, or likely will have, any issues with. I might not say this enough, but keep up the good work Lack and co.

But don't let it go to your heads... I still think you're idiots on other issues... :D

EDIT: Also much gr0tz to the mapheads. Can't express enough of the sentiment there.

It's the idiots who are going to use this as an excuse that bother me. I'm no fan of classic, but it is still the workhorse map. And secrets don't make friends, foundry people! I would like to know what has been accomplished other than identifying that we need a new map.

The issue is not in the hands of the foundry people yet. Not even close.

Nobody really knows what happened, even. Twill said, way back less than 12 hours ago when he announced the problem, he said he didn't know much. After that, its been 10 hours of speculation from the clueless and no news. Because its probably still a problem that's being worked out as we speak, or it's their time to sleep. No business should be expected to "accomplish" anything (that can be explained to the public) in the middle of a major problem that started less than half a day ago. I'm sure as soon as they figure things out, they'll tell us.

The foundry is a very transparent place, actually. Its almost completely run by people with regular accounts like ours. The mods are just there as a kind of "overseers." You should really check it out, actually, maps run on user feedback. So anyway, if you can't see something in the foundry yourself, its not there.

how do you say that it SUCKS without repeating what everybody else has already said? i can't so i won't. it SUCKS!!!!! you would think, that you would of known that you would be getting hit by hasebro sooner or later. so why when you boned up the classic map the last time, didn't you do something about it and make it so you wouldn't bone it up another time and make all the paying members pissed off?

i agree, the management of this site really needs to get their act together. unless of course you only care about getting new customers and not keeping the ones that you have had for a while and helped this site grow when it was nothing but a start up.

get a decent map and make it work right the FIRST time. stop making all these other maps trying to impress everybody, or who ever you're trying to impress with the number of maps you have, and make the ones you have work and work right the first time. didn't we just go over this about 6 months ago with the "NEW" classic that sucked? can't you learn from mistakes?

[-X [-X [-X [-X [-X

good news, is my membership is up next month. and if this classic crap map is still around, i'll be saving whatever you raise the fee to between now and then.

I hang out in the foundry, you know me. I just don't make maps is all.

It's just I grew up with family business and there was always a lot more drive to fix things.
If I ran a pet shop and ran out of fish then I better get some freaking fish in a hurry. That temp map is a fine temp solution but I'd like to know where are the fish, if you know what I mean.

hmmm, how many posts have you had on this topic already and you think it affecting my life? maybe it would be best if you GOT a life.

but yes, i do enjoy the classic map, that was why i joined it. the others just don't do anything for me, so what's your point?

bottom line is, that this site has been mismanaged for the last year in putting out a product that doesn't meet the standards that they try to set for themselves. remember the goat rope that was the "NEW" classic and how much fun that was before it was fixed? my point is fix it so that it works PRIOR to putting it out. it's just common sense.
