The Majority of people in that country are poor. He is surrounded by poverty but is used to it so of course he see's himself as fine. Would you like to move to his neighborhood if you think he is doing fine? He has been trying to get enough money for years to study to become a mechanic and could not until recently when given money by donors.

Good point Bryguy about the racist part. Being that 96% of Blacks surveyed will vote for him (10% higher than for Kerry) and an overall about 25% higher registration rate amoung blacks is not a racist topic to worry about.

Obama has done nothing but talk about his past. We've learned about Reverend Wright, about his parents' past, how he lived in Indonesia for a few years as a child, how he went to Columbia and Harvard, before deciding to become a community organizer in Chicago instead of taking a high paying job in Wall Street. For what he will do, try looking at his website, or listening to his convention speech, or numerous other places. Basically, just listening to the guy, not what people say about him.
