IRC Channel Created

Post by Xav1er »

Where? Quakenet
How? www.mirc.com
Why? Easy was to communicate with other players and organize games.

All you have to do is go to www.mirc.com and download a version of IRC then install it, after it is installed fill in the info required, your nickname etc etc. Once you enter the info click on and simply type "/server irc.quakenet.org" in the window titled "Server" (duh). It will then begin connecting, after it is connected you can type "/join #ConquerClub" and join the fun!

* - In all the commands, /server and /join do not include " in the commands.

Great initiative Xav1er.

Just to pimp our own chat...you can also chat by clicking the Live Chat link on the left.

IRC definitely has some advantages, and if anyone can make a private IRC server with a nameserver bot that can accept forced /identify, doesn't allow for /nick changes, disables all joins not through logged in accounts, is lightweight, and has an AJAX or non-Java front end, we'd probably look into switching over.

IRC rocks :)

It would be nice if Live Chat moved to IRC

Features you ask for are very nice, but probably not necessary; at least not all of them. Have to think, though.

I mean, all non-registered nicks could be auto-kicked from official channels. If some players want to have different nicks outside of official channels, they actually don't make any harm...

I wouldn't call it great. It has it's moments, but it's too strictly controlled in a nitpicky way. Like tonight, most in chat were celebrating an historic moment, and several with shields were having a conniption fit when there really wasn't even any real "spamming". I'd be happy to try out the IRC channel.

It is more than possible to set channel modes that require +r (recognized/identify), the Rizon network is famous for having channels that require it. Having a +m on the channel (muted) and having a script in action that has a list of all account names on CC that auto-voices (+v) them would do the trick.

Quakenet is a good server for online games, another game i play is based on there and has 100+ people sitting in it daily 24hrs a day :P

There wouldn't be any rules, do what you want, say what you want. the only rule id make is simply English only... Also using IRC allows you to have it minimized and not having a browser window open.

As for the authorization stuff you are talking about, it is not needed unless you were +ao or +av.

sounds like the old MSN chatrooms you are after there Twill.

If you are serious about it though, I may be able to make a few enquiries (I know where such a baby exists)
