Iron Curtain/Communist Bloc Europe

Post by GlassMachine »

I was thinking of another possibly interesting map - Cold War Europe, complete with "Iron Curtain" immpassables, secret escape points, Soviet Union/NATO affiliation bonuses. Obviously this would be a VERY detailed map and could take time to piece together, but ultimately I believe it would be awesome to play! If anyone would be willing to work with me on this, please PM or reply. Thanks!

Good Idea. I started a map like this last year. See HERE. I stopped development for other projects. It will be a bear. Feel free to reference my map if you continue with this project. I'm not ready to get back involved with it though.

That is exactly what I mean't. The map posted is a great map! Unfortunately it only completes half of what I originally intended. I would also like to include the other half of Europe in blue, violet, and green tones. Place "escape" points on the curtain, add one or two air bombardment zones in the west, a missile silo or two in the east . Regular territory bonuses would be obvious (the map post is a great example), but I would also like to add others. For example - holding East and West Germany +2, hold all bloc capitals +5, hold all escape points +3, and also a larger scale bonus like hold all NATO or Bloc nations. Obviously this would turn out to be a challenging game to play, but very fun!

I wanted to go one step further and add that I don't think the old map should be changed at all. It is the perfect size for the huge map I envision in my head, all it needs is the other half =)

Problem is the size restrictions of maps. 840 pix is the largest you can go. We've pleaded and begged to allow larger sized maps, but the site owner will not budge.

You're idea is great. I really hope you pursue it. It could be grand. It's going to be hard to cram all those regions into the map though. The map I posted above is the large version. Another stipulation is you have to create both a Large AND a small version. The small map would be extremely cramped, and perhaps unplayable. It takes a skilled cartographer to do it. Qwert had a hell of time with his WW2 map. Look here:

Good luck though -
