If you lean toward the creative, try tacking some fancy cloth up, making a "canopy" around your bed.
Add pillows to your bed .. the more, the better. If you can't see ones you like cheap enough, get cheap ones and then either sew or glue (that fabric glue actually works!) some fabric you like. (look for remnants, odd pieces in fabric stores).
A bright colored shade, if you are allowed.
Since it is hard to know your taste from the photo, check out some (newer) design books from the library. With advent of all those cable shows, there are a lot of books out on the subject now.

Player is right. I frequent art stores. They have plenty of design books. Some of them have Space Odyssey stuff, but only because some of the design books show chronological styles. We know... and you need to expand your horizons. You make it plain you have not seen much modern design. Among other things, one of the MOST current trends is to take things from various periods. Partially it is style and partially it is the realistic acceptance that not everyone can afford antiques ... or any other particular set of pieces. Oh I've seen plenty of modern design. What you are speaking of is a current trend. Also antiques aren't all expensive if you know were to look, and to except that it doesn't have to be perfect. Or to by things that merely look old. THAT is what modern design is really about ... following YOUR passion, with a little help for those who need and wish it, who have trouble finding their passion on their own.
Sorta like Max Reger's back to Bach movement. Personally, I try to be very cautious with anything after 1900, as far as art goes.
