Donuts do not contain alcohol and do not belong in a bar, mini or other kind.

You've got some pretty male-centric, misogynistic pictures up on your photobucket album for being a chick. Or the album where you linked your room picture from, at any rate.

the photobucket account looks pretty multi..ish to me...
Plants, a couple of nice plants would do well and might even be a bit healthy.
Lights always nice, if you can.
If you lean toward the creative, try tacking some fancy cloth up, making a "canopy" around your bed.
Add pillows to your bed .. the more, the better. If you can't see ones you like cheap enough, get cheap ones and then either sew or glue (that fabric glue actually works!) some fabric you like. (look for remnants, odd pieces in fabric stores).
A bright colored shade, if you are allowed.
Since it is hard to know your taste from the photo, check out some (newer) design books from the library. With advent of all those cable shows, there are a lot of books out on the subject now.

The canopy idea is great, however I would strongly advise against "newer". The last thing you wanna do is go and end up making your room look like some Space Odyssey 2001. However, There is a show on one of those design channels, (I forget which) called design by divine, or maybe divine by design, look it up on the web. The host of the show is actually pretty good.

You have obviously not read any of those books! The "space Odyssey" look went out circa 1980, if not before. There is an amazing diversity of tastes represented, which was my point.

Player is right. I frequent art stores. They have plenty of design books. Some of them have Space Odyssey stuff, but only because some of the design books show chronological styles. If you can't find those, look on the rack at home depot they will have some magazine with color thems.

The Space Odyssey part was not meant literally, but rather as a jab at all modern design in general.

We know... and you need to expand your horizons. You make it plain you have not seen much modern design. Among other things, one of the MOST current trends is to take things from various periods. Partially it is style and partially it is the realistic acceptance that not everyone can afford antiques ... or any other particular set of pieces. We get something here, something there... and put it all together in ways we like.
THAT is what modern design is really about ... following YOUR passion, with a little help for those who need and wish it, who have trouble finding their passion on their own.

Oh I've seen plenty of modern design. What you are speaking of is a current trend. Also antiques aren't all expensive if you know were to look, and to except that it doesn't have to be perfect. Or to by things that merely look old. Antiques were at one point new them selves, and you can still find things with a nostalgic feel to them.
The funny thing is art programs today, because of some teachers, are still stuck in the 90's modernism, which all has to do with the Space Odyssey look or some vaginal/phallic/womb look to them. Or they present modern art as trash stuck together. Bleh. Stick to real art which is going back to the classics.

Sorta like Max Reger's back to Bach movement. Personally, I try to be very cautious with anything after 1900, as far as art goes. Same with music.
