Map Background Information

Post by Teflon Kris »

Hi

Some maps (particularly the historical maps) have had a lot of research put into them which is pretty much unknown to many of the players.

Many of them are probably interested.

When browsing maps, players can click on the foundry discussion, most of which is going to be alien to them.

I would suggest that it may be an idea to have a link to a page with a few paragraphs of background information. For example, information about the dominant empires of the WWI era for qwerts Europe 1914 map. In Imperium Romanium it could be explained that the map is from the era when the empire was at its largest (I think).

This probably applies to a percentage of the maps but would be a nice feature, although work for someone! It could be introduced peacemeal?

What do you think folks?

If we use the Imperium Romanium example, a description page could simply say something along the lines of "this was the Empire in 117AD, at its Zenith. The emperor was ... .

"The empire continued to be strong until ... , when ..."

For more info check out these wicked web sites:......"

Straightforwad country maps such as Portugal might just mention which era the map represents (i.e. modern day) and pehaps population info., very brief history of the nation.

It would just be about adding a bit of geographical / historical information to the site. Most people might not be bothered but you can bet there would be thousands that would be interested and would learn something.

I like the idea of added tid-bits of information...but lets first get down all the essentials of the Map Information Project that is currently underway. :D
