The DJIA has dropped from September 2007s high of 14000+ to the mid 6000s!!!!

THATS A DROP OF NEARLY 53%!!!!!!

Unemployment is at 8.1%, National debt is at an extreme $11Trillion

Unlike CC this drop in points will take years to recover and maybe even decades! Will the DJ drop below 6000? Six months ago anylists said the recession was over...they were wrong. Three months ago they said it was over...they were wrong. As the second TRILLION DOLLAR recovery / bailout package strolls through Congress and into the CEO's hands will the economy start to recover? Or... will it drop as it did so many times after feeble recovery attemps to 6250 or 6000 or 5750? Will it be the second great World Depression and continue to drop until we are all forced to give up our CC memberships and become freemiums? Or even a billion times worse than that, will electricity be too expensive for us so we must cease our computer operations and good old days on CC?

How long will this drought continue? If you think about it this is real people, we will not be feeling the affects of the market NOW until 3 months down the road, so just wait. In three months from now it'll be worse, a lot worse.

Hmm my guess is the stimulation package won't help. From some research I've done there will be so much money in circulation that prices will greatly inflate. So overall my answer is no. The stimulus package will not help.

Wow, that's quite a confused rant.

It may sound a bit political but I agree with JC in that the stimulus won't be as effective as planned. Congressmen simply don't have the engine room to put a package together that will actually jumpstart the economy. Even if they did they have so many self-satisfying interests that it may never come to pass. We really need to flush out a lot of garbage and get back on track before we can move forward.

As for the market, its really hard to tell. My guess is that we don't go too much more in any direction, but have a lot of movement in a range around 7000-9000 for at least this year.

I'm in finance and consider myself well informed on the issues so take it for what you want.

The stimulus package will probably not do much. It has too many tax cuts, not enough infrastructure funding and money to state governments. I blame Republicans for their obstructionism, and I blame Democrats for their weak attempt at bipartisanship, compromising before negotiations even began.

Oh there's a great deal more pain to come before this all levels out.

I was tempted when the FTSE dropped to 4,500 but held. Then I was tempted at 4,000 but held again. I will be tempted even more when the FTSE goes to 3,500...I might just be tempted to start buying then....but it depends on what happens over the next few months. It is almost certain I shall start going in hard if it drops to 3,000.

I have kept my powder dry on Wall Street stocks ever since liquidating everything early last year. I will be sorely tempted when it drops to 6,000.

I almost went in yesterday as my benchmark 3,500 points came very close....

I did jump into a mining stock 'Kazakhmys PLC', their results are out on Thursday. I am sitting here wondering whether to dump and exit so pocketing the quick overnight 10% gain....or will I get greedy....hmmmmm

On the "retirement" discussion....it is RETIREMENT....unless you are 60 or so, ignore it.

If you are playing the market with your savings, then it is my humble opinion that you have enough financial wherewithal to afford the losses. If you dont, than WTF are you risking it for?

Aside from retirement funds, I messed around minorly in the market 15 years ago or so...lost horrendously on a few and gained back in others - netted a break even and a lot of stress. Since then any EXTRA purchasing power I have has gone into real estate.

The market will come back....have faith....be patient.......

I don't see the Dow dropping to lower than a thousand points. I don't see it dropping to near that number.
