CastleVania SOTN map

Post by Leo Oinkee »

I have been working on a map that I would like to get started in CC. It is based on the actual in game map in CastleVania Symphony of the Night. It has 13 'continents' and 46 territories. I am Practically done, all I need to do is name the territories. I would appreciate community feedback.

this map needs a bit of work
as a concept it seems ok but
- I can't see where armies (or circles)are going to sit / fit
- I can't work out individual territories inside continents
- as a large map the text is already hard to read because of size, It is going to struggle when converted to a small map

I would really like to get this through forge. I think that this map deserves to get out of the Drafting Room. I am willing to work on my map and fix any problems but I feel that I am not getting enough feedback. If I could get this map out of the Drafting Room it would be much appreciated.

Jon B. the territories are way to small to fit the armies in, and you have to have a smaller version and a larger version. if you shrink that down, you really won't be able to fit anything in.

1. SMALL MAP: WIDTH up to 630 px; HEIGHT 600 px
2. LARGE MAP: WIDTH up to 840 px ; HEIGHT 800 px.

i think copyright will be ur main difficulty. we had to change all of the names on middle earth (now centerscape) because of this, then revamp the whole map. are u capable of changing things enough to avoid copyright issues, yet still make the map recognisable to castlevania fans?

If there was a copyright issue I suppose I could change it. As for the size I knows that it is too big. Anyone have any suggestions? I would like to get it through forge but it is starting to look very unlikely. I mostly made this map for personal use but I would certainly put the work into it if I could fix it. Thanks!

try making a map that has a similar theme and shape at first glance, but where the layout is different on closer examination. up to half of the coloured sections can be omitted to help with size, with the rest being spliced together and altered to keep it visually recognisable and to make each room's shape more suitable for names and army circles. u can even increase the number of rooms by splitting each coloured section into more rooms.

if u end up with a pleasing result that u think does not infringe copyright - the name must be changed - and wish to continue, then post ur image and ask mrbenn to move this thread to the drafting room. good luck!

Okayyyy it sounds like I should start from square one. I will change the name (Battle for Castle Dracula?). I think I will try to fill up some of the middle blank parts to give more room. Also do you think that 12 continents is waaay too much? I think I should probably somewhat start over but I will work on it. Thanks for the help Ian I really appreciate it!

How many regions do you have?
If all rooms are regions , probably you will have problems with the small map.

Read here ;)

Holy batwings, it is the Castlevania map.... Shocked was I when I instantly recognized it...
I am very poor, that is one of the only PS1 games that I had. I worked all summer to buy it, and only had enough money for a couple games... I must have beaten Castlevania a hundred times... loved that game....

So here is some mega support for your idea!!!
I think the best way to fit the map though would be to utterly shrink it down. Some rooms are going to be needed to be removed completely... all in all, it's just too big to be a cc map. Maybe even focus on a specific area of the castle. If of course, you can get past the copyright... and are motivated enough.
Having the teleports link and the saves +1 is really smart too.

You should do a sister map and flip it upside down. :D
