It´s not based on a book directly (surely inspired by several.. although not officially as with the naked lunch movie)
The producer of the movie and the main composer of the musical score was from the U.S. but the director comes from a spanish-speaking country. It was financed by a very famous englishman.

It contains lots of male and female nudity and lots of blood (to such an extent that it complicates choosing a pic that is SFW)
It didn´t do well in Peru Premiered at the Cannes festival - Originally had a limited distribution in the US (only NY and SF)
